UPDATE Aug 26th, 2021 10:42GMT: Thank you all for the feedback! We have deployed a few fixes. For those of you that saw a "0" appear instead of a hit dice button, you will now correctly see the button instead of the "0." We have also fixed a bug where deselecting already used hit dice and reselecting them would cause the hit dice button to appear. Clicking the Reset and Take Short Rest buttons will now also correctly set your hit dice to the proper amount. From feedback, we've also changed the default state of the checkbox to heal you with your hit dice automatically. This will now be checked by default. We read all your feedback so keep it coming!
Greetings Adventurers!
We are ecstatic to announce the addition of an exciting new feature! While short resting you can now roll your hit dice! Opening up the short rest pane and select however many hit dice you would like to roll during the rest and a dice button will appear underneath, adding your constitution modifier as well. If you would like to apply the hit dice you rolled as health, there is an option to do so listed right above your hit dice.
If you have feedback, we want to hear it! Go ahead and leave us a comment.
Hi - What is the algorithm behind regaining hit dice after a long rest. After a long rest my multi classed char ALWAYS regains the d6 ahead of the d8 (Rogue/Wizard), so I am curious as to the logic that determines this. Obviously I would prefer to regain the d8 first up not last.
Awesome!
I'd like to see this mechanic taken advantage of in homebrew magic items. For example, my table runs a home rule wherein potions of healing heal for a quantity of the users hit dice instead of flat d4s, then adds the typical potion of healing bonus dependent on the rarity. With this new feature, I'm hoping soon I can create a homebrew item that calls a quantity of the users hit dice automatically with the appropriate rarity bonus added on as a consumable item to give to my players. Currently it's handled verbally at the table instead of through dndbeyond.
All of D&D beyond is an honor system. Have you not seen the "add items" button in the inventory? You can add anything that you have unlocked on D&D beyond to your inventory, including legendary magic items and even one or two artifacts.
There is one big issue that gets me. The use of the back or < button kicks you off the web or backs you completely out of your character. On the web you have to go through a process just to get to the previous page or selection without backing out all the way. It's frustrating when you're playing especially during combat. Thank you! Other than that a good solid app
uhhhhhhh
But when will we see the Hurdy-Gurdy?
Just used this with my party. Weirdly, some players were able to roll their dice right from the short rest menu once they ticked the hit dice box, but others were not. It may have been differentiated based on whether it was a D8 or a D10. Is this a bug? Both characters had damage, and in another case the hit die rolled correctly for a character that wasn't even missing any HP.
Try open the Short rest menu in another browser.
If it works in another browser have them delete the cache.
Interesting! So it may be a bug instead of a mistake on my end. Unfortunately it didn't work for me and since I was using AboveVTT with the site, I can't delete my cache because that would wipe out all my maps. But I can ask them to!
Even if you delete the cache in Edge (I know no one use that browser, do good for testing)
The issue specifically is that I use a chrome and Firefox extension called AboveVTT (highly recommend, by the way) that adds a VTT layer on top of DnDBeyond. However, unlike Roll20, it doesn't store your maps in the cloud, just locally in your cache. So if I clear my cache all my prep work goes up in smoke. But I can ask my players to do it and roll their hit dice since they're not storing the data we need.
Does this work with the Durable feat?
Came to see if there was any discussion on this very question. As far as I can tell from my own experimentation, the adjusted calculation from the Durable feat does not appear to be happening when healing from a hit die is less than 2x CON modifier. (Unless I'm missing something.)
ayo wow
Absolutely amazing feature! However it does not work on the web-based interface, only the D&D beyond app for mobile devices. As I run all my games online at a laptop and using webcams, this change unfortunately doesn't seem to apply to me. Hopefully it will be fixed in the future though!
To enable dice rolling in a browser, click on your character portrait, then Character Settings. Under Underdark (haha), make sure Dice Rolling is enabled.
