Today, we've released an update to the Digital Dice Alpha that will improve the styling on the character sheet, the speed at which the dice roll, and the animation quality of the dice rolling.
A new settings area on the "My Dice" page will allow you to control the level of graphics with which that you roll. This will make it even faster to make rolls on the character sheet (and other places in the future) at the cost of graphics quality. You will also see that we have now added sounds to rolling. Turn the volume all the way down to turn off the sound.
Also, you will now see a much cleaner UI for the roll buttons. ALL YOUR SKILLS ARE NOW BACK IN ONE BOX!
Lastly, we've made some changes on the backend to help with performance and the speed at which a die is rolled to make things faster overall.
Please give these things a swing and let us know if they help. Stay tuned for more changes coming soon.
Nice work, unfortunately it’s still not rolling with Advantage/Disadvantage when it should be and there is no option to do that manually either
Great updates but one thing I still struggle to understand is why the clickable areas have to have larger text at all? I can't see that as being a necessary coding component so it's a stylistic choice to represent the fact that the dice function is on. Can't it be something else like the colour theme of the dice or something? Why specifically larger text? Isn't the box enough?
You're right =). Still no Advantage or Disadvantage. But we are working on it and we have some prototypes we're playing with right now to see what works best.
I understand and I agree. I'd love to keep it slim and sleek, but when we're designing an interface, we have to keep everyone in mind. When all you are doing is displaying information, you don't have to worry about having large hit targets. When we change that to a clickable/tappable area, we have to be a lot more clear about where you can hit to initiate the roll. We have to think about all the ways that someone will hit that button and all the devices they will do it on.
With this update, we hope it will be a compromise between both of those worlds. I nice sleek design as well as user friendly for all people.
Nice updates, great work!
There really needs to be advantage/disadvantage else this isn't really practically usable in its current state, since you have to wait for the notably long animation to finish before you roll your second die.
There is clipping with the damage boxes on certain weapons with their notes section. I would love to see an option to disable animations for dice rolling. What I and many others want from a digital dice roller is to do it quickly, if I want to see dice roll I'd do it in reality.
The sound effect on the basic dice (everything except the Mythic set) is.... clunky? It doesn't sound the way my brain expects the dice to sound -- the effect seems to cut out too quickly after it starts or something. I apologize because I'm not a sound design person so I don't know the right language to use, I just know it could use some refinement (at least to my ear). So far I like the updates / changes, and am experiencing much faster speeds with it even on full graphics / sounds.
I can't wait for this to go live on other parts of the site (the Combat Tracker in particular). Once you're able to integrate your campaign management, encounter builder, and combat tracker..... ooooof. I'm giddy at the thought!
It's still slow, even though I've turned off the options and used Low quality. Like, seems slower than before! Especially as the DM, it's just painfully slow to roll to hit, multiple damage, etc, for multiple monsters - I can roll physical dice way faster. Really frustrating, please speed it up, like about 5 times as fast, please, to make it useable.
