It’s no secret that we love all things Dungeons & Dragons. So we’re excited to share that our fellow D&D enthusiasts over at IDW Publishing have just unleashed a new Dungeons & Dragons comic book series, At the Spine of the World.
At the Spine of the World is the second IDW collaboration between writers AJ Mendez (former WWE superstar and New York Times bestseller) and Aimee Garcia (star of TV’s Lucifer and Dexter). The duo brings us a perilous new storyline set in the frozen lands surrounding Ten Towns and Icewind Dale. Perpetual night, blizzards, and the plot of an ancient primordial evil are pushing the local inhabitants to the brink of insanity. Only a band of adventurers--with faces old and new--stands a chance of setting things right.
Check out some awesome preview pages, starting with an explosive cover by Martin Coccolo and Katrina Mae Hao, whose beautiful lines and colors also bring life to book’s interior pages!
The adventure begins with a bang as unseen tensions explode as sled dogs and their driver race through the inhospitable peaks of Icewind Dale.
Looking inside, grizzled and dour-faced prospectors bicker over a well-bound hunk of ore—the mysterious and sinister element CHARDALYN.
Bickering turns quickly to a bloodbath! Provoked by the chardalyn’s corrupting influence, these bloodthirsty men have become little more than beasts!
Time passes, and the sled dogs flee for help—and they find it in the form of the strong and savvy Uthgardt tribeswoman, Runa.
Runa is quick to act, but finds only carnage at the site of the battle. But just as she is about to give up hope, a figure staggers to his feet—the musher, Amos, spared from the worst of the battle by his position driving the dogs!
Distrust is everywhere in Icewind Dale, as day turns to eternal night and evil seeps up from the ground itself. Danger and adventure lurk around every corner At the Spine of the World! Issue 1 is available now in digital and print editions through IDW Publishing, and Issue 2 is coming soon!
