Homebrew (Homebrew) Dragonbold Species Details

Born of two distinct draconic lineages, half-dragonborn, half-kobolds—sometimes called Scaled Kin or Dragonbolds—inherit a mix of proud heritage and survival instinct. These individuals walk a line between two worlds: the towering might and honor-bound traditions of dragonborn, and the cunning resilience of kobolds.

Dragonbolds often struggle to find a place among either parent’s people. Too large and independent for kobold warrens, too small and wiry for dragonborn legions, they are frequently wanderers, inventors, or mercenaries—drawn to lives where they can forge their own identity.

Their appearance is as varied as their ancestry. Some possess the sturdy build and colorful scales of dragonborn, accented by the sharp claws, tails, or snouts of kobolds. Others are leaner, with exaggerated draconic features and a restless gleam in their eyes. Regardless of form, the draconic blood runs strong, gifting them with natural cunning, a resilient spirit, and often a flicker of breath or magical power.

Breath Weapon

When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in either a 15-foot Cone or a 30-foot Line that is 5 feet wide (choose the shape each time). Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 plus your Constitution modifier and Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, a creature takes 1d10 damage of the type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach character levels 5 (2d10), 11 (3d10), and 17 (4d10).

You can use this Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Damage Resistance

You have Resistance to the damage type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Draconic Roar

As a bonus action, you let out a  draconic roar at your nearby enemies. Each creature of your choice that is within 15 feet of you and are aware of you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Dragonbolds Draconic Roar for the next 24 hours. Any dragon and Draconic races of higher level are immune to this effect.
