Homebrew "The Wolf & The Raven" Species Details

In the old wilds, ravens followed wolves for food — and wolves followed ravens for guidance. Over centuries, a deeper pact formed between spirit packs and flocks. Now, some are born as Bonded Souls: one spirit split between two bodies — a raven and a wolf — linked by thought and instinct.

A Wolf & Raven pair moves as one being in two forms. The wolf embodies instinct, strength, and loyalty; the raven, wit, vision, and guile. Together, they hunt, survive, and scheme as one lifeform.

Racial Rules (Dual Form Play)

When you create a Wolf & Raven character, you are two creatures sharing one soul. Mechanically, you control both at once.

  • You have one shared turn, shared HP, and shared resources.

  • The Wolf and the Raven act from different positions on the battlefield.

  • If either body dies, the other begins dying immediately — the bond is inseparable.

"The Wolf & The Raven" Traits

Your Wolf & Raven character represents two lives sharing one spirit — a predator of earth and a watcher of sky, bound by instinct and soul. Together, they embody the perfect hunt: the patience of the raven, the ferocity of the wolf, and the harmony between them. As a Wolf & Raven, you have the following racial traits.

Creature Type

Your creature type is Beast.

Ability Score Increase

Choose one:

  • +2 Wisdom, +1 Dexterity (if your focus is the Raven)

  • +2 Strength, +1 Wisdom (if your focus is the Wolf)

Size

  • Wolf Body: Medium

  • Raven Body: Tiny

Speed

  • Wolf: 40 ft.

  • Raven: 10 ft. (walk), 50 ft. (fly)

Soul Link

You control both bodies on the same initiative. They share one pool of hit points, AC, and saving throws.
If one form would be forced to make a save, roll once — the result applies to both.

You can communicate telepathically with your other half within 1 mile.

One Mind, Two Bodies

The wolf and raven can take actions independently but must share a single Action, Bonus Action, and Reaction each turn between them.

Example:

  • The Wolf could make a melee attack while the Raven uses movement to scout above.

  • The Raven could use the Help action to give the Wolf advantage on its attack.

  • The Wolf could Dodge while the Raven uses its turn to deliver a spell via Touch range (if a caster).

The Hunt Together

If both the Wolf and the Raven are within 30 feet of the same creature, your attacks against that creature deal an additional 1d4 damage (once per turn).
This damage type depends on the form that struck the blow:

  • Wolf — slashing

  • Raven — piercing

This bonus increases to 1d6 at 5th level, 1d8 at 11th, and 1d10 at 17th.

Raven’s Sight

Your Raven body has darkvision (60 ft.) and advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks relying on sight.
You can speak and understand both Common and Sylvan, but only the Raven can actually speak aloud.

Wolf’s Instinct

Your Wolf body has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks relying on smell and hearing.
While in wolf form, your movement does not provoke opportunity attacks if you move at least 10 feet before or after the attack.

The wolf can't speak any language other then Vulpin which it both speaks and understands.

Bond of the Hunt

As a Bonus Action, the Wolf and Raven can coordinate perfectly for 1 minute.
During this time:

  • The Wolf’s melee attacks have advantage if the Raven can see the target.

  • The Raven’s Help action doesn’t cost an action — it’s automatic once per turn.

You can use this feature once per long rest (or twice at level 10, three times at level 17).

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Vulpin and Sylvan. Both the Raven and Wolf understand each other telepathically.

Natural Attacks

Wolf – Fangs. Melee Weapon Attack: You can make a bite attack using your wolf body. It uses Strength for attack and damage rolls and deals 1d6 + Strength modifier piercing damage. On a hit, if another ally (or your raven) is within 5 feet of the target, you can roll an extra 1d4 damage.

Raven – Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: You can make a talon attack using your raven body. It uses Dexterity for attack and damage rolls and deals 1d4 + Dexterity modifier slashing damage.

These count as natural weapons that you are proficient with. At 5th level, these attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks.

Weapon Channeling

Though you can’t wield weapons normally, your bond allows one form to channel the essence of a held weapon.
When either body touches a weapon (for example, the raven perching on one or the wolf holding it in its jaws), you may magically bind it to your shared soul for 1 hour.
While bound:

  • Your natural attacks use the weapon’s damage die instead of their normal dice.

  • The attack’s damage type becomes the weapon’s type (slashing, piercing, or bludgeoning).

  • You can apply magical bonuses and effects from that weapon to your natural attacks.

You can bind one weapon at a time, and you can rebind it during a short or long rest.

(Example: A Wolf & Raven bond to a shortsword. Their bite and talon attacks now deal 1d6 slashing damage, and count as magical if the sword is enchanted.)

Aerial Strike

Your Raven can channel your shared spirit energy into a dive or a spectral weapon strike from above.

Aerial Strike. Ranged Weapon Attack:
Range 30/90 ft.
You make this attack using Dexterity.
On a hit, the target takes 1d6 + your Dexterity modifier slashing damage.

This attack represents the Raven dive-bombing with a spectral echo of the Wolf’s power — a phantom fang, claw, or weapon strike — and counts as a natural weapon you are proficient with.

When you reach certain levels, the damage of this attack increases:

  • 5th level: 1d8

  • 11th level: 1d10

  • 17th level: 1d12

If you’ve bound a weapon using your Weapon Channeling trait, this attack uses that weapon’s damage type (for example, slashing if you’re bound to a longsword).
At 5th level, this attack counts as magical for overcoming resistances.

Predator’s Volley

Starting at 7th level, when you take the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with an Aerial Strike made by your Raven (if you have multiattack).
If the Wolf has a hostile creature within 5 feet of it when the Raven makes this attack, the strike has advantage.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses after a long rest.
