Homebrew 🟆 Mechanoid Species Details
The more advanced cousin of the warforged, Mechanoid have abandoned their dependence on the arcane for pure technological biology. These humanoids are made from metal, complex circuitry and harbor a human-like sentience. They have special programming or body parts designed to aid them in the task or job they were designed to do, but that doesn't mean they are restricted just to that one thing. Mechanoids are varied and are seen all throughout the galaxy.
🟆 Mechanoid Traits
As a Mechanoid, you have these special traits.Technological Construct
As a Mechanoid, your creature type is Construct. You don't need to eat or breathe, and you only need to spend 4 hours in a dormant self-charging state to take a long rest.
Defined Function
You were constructed by something or someone for a specific purpose and are outfitted with an enhancement to suit.
Error Code
If you are hit with damage equal to, or over half your max HP, with a single attack, you can choose to roll on the malfunction table below as a reaction. You can use this once per long rest.
- Backup_Save: You immediately gain temp hp equal to 1d10 + Con Mod.
- Retaliate_Protocol.exe: You can immediately make a non-spell attack against the creature who hit you if they are in range.
- Error 404: You can immediately cast invisibility on yourself without expending a spell slot.
- Power_Surge: You immediately regain one charge of one of your abilities of your choosing. (Excluding spell slots)
Comprehensive Database
You can briefly connect to the interwebs, accessing and downloading information in order to give yourself advantage on a d20 roll. You can do this amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest. However, you must make a wisdom saving throw or take 2d6 psychic damage, the saving throw starts at DC 15 and increases by 2 each time you use this feature, and resets to DC 15 after a long rest.

Posted Jan 7, 2026I feel like error code is too weak at higher levels due to how rare a full hp attack is, also a player probably doesn't want to jump into for example an exploding room or falling floating island, I really like the idea of it though

Posted Jan 14, 2026Oh haha, I built this for a sci-fi campaign i'm running soon and personally with my monsters they often do hit for a ton of damage, but I can see where you're coming from for levels 10+, thanks for the feedback

Posted Feb 24, 2026I agree, it should be something like a quarter of the max HP the make it more common at higher levels.
