This spell lets you convince a beast that you mean it no harm. Choose a beast that you can see within range. It must see and hear you. If the beast's Intelligence is 4 or higher, the spell fails. Otherwise, the beast must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you for the spell's duration. If you or one of your companions harms the target, the spell ends.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can affect one additional beast for each slot level above 1st.

Posted Nov 30, 2021It's referring to the creature's Intelligence score. If it were referring to it's modifier, it'd definitely mention that explicitly.

Posted May 18, 2022At higher levels, i.e. effecting more than one beast, if you or your companions harm one beast does the spell end for them all, or just the one harmed? At first I thought just the one harmed, but now I'm not sure. Can you charm a pack of wolves then butcher them one by one while the, as yet unharmed ones, wait wagging their tails?

Posted Jul 17, 2025If you are in combat with a beast, does casting this spell on them pacify them? Naturally, if the party damages them after the casting it will go hostile (or run away), but if they are in combat with the party does the spell automatically fail? Also, if being in combat doesn't make the spell auto fail, if the party had damaged the beast before casting the spell, does it then make it so the spell will not work?
