Fire
A bright streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd.
* - (a tiny ball of bat guano and sulfur)
Player: Before we start, I should let you know I'm a Wild Magic Sorcerer.
DM: Oh, ok. Remind me about surges, I don't always remember.
*30 minutes later*
Player: Oh I cast a leveled spell! Can I roll for a surge?
DM: Yeah, sure.
*rolls 13*
Player: Awwww.
*15 minutes later*
Player: Ok, I used my Tides of Chaos to get advantage on the save last round and I cast Chromatic Orb this round, can I roll on the surge table to get my Tides back?!
*DM glances around at the rest of the table, seeing nervous looks from those not buried in their phones*
DM: Ummm sure, why not, it's a class feature.
*Wild Magic Sorcerer fist pumps and grabs two d10s. Rolls 0 and 8.*
Player: Oh shi...............
Remember that this also hits allies when you throw it in the middle of a battle, unless you are an evocation school Wizard.
...so fireball does not set anything worn or carried on fire. Does that include hair or fur?
this is overpowered af you cards
I see spells like this are highly regarded, but I keep going back to conjure animals, which if you summon 8 1/4 CR beasts, does huge damage EVERY round for one slot. What am I missing? We had a troublesome octopus type homemade mob, and our 8 wolves made short work of it over 2 rounds.
is this an arcane spell?
What is the DEX needed to save?
Can you hurt yourself when you get the one with the fireball spell.
the Difficulty of the DEX save is the same as the casting wizards spell save DC
Depends on the spellcaster's Spell Save DC. Whatever that number is on the caster's character sheet is the Dex save that the target needs to exceed,
made against your spell save DC... then they only take half damage. still Super powerful!
Player: "I didn't ask how big the room is. I said I cast fireball."
It's the casters spellcasting modifier
Can the caster launch a fireball blindly into a place where they can’t see?
Might be a dumb quest but do you use your components every time you cast this and then find new ones? or just have to have them on you and you can cast it.
Depends on what you mean. They don't need to see their target point, but nothing can be between the caster and the target otherwise it will hit the obstruction
As long as the caster has a component pouch or an arcane focus in use, they have any material components that are not accompanied by a specific cost.
In the old days of DnD you had to gather them. *infuriating*
I'm sure that the bat guano is an old, old component.
But it does feel like a kind of subtle dad joke. Because this spell does bats**t crazy damage. Heyoooooooooo
Ooga booga
