Up to ten berries appear in your hand and are infused with magic for the duration. A creature can use its action to eat one berry. Eating a berry restores 1 hit point, and the berry provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day.
The berries lose their potency if they have not been consumed within 24 hours of the casting of this spell.
* - (a sprig of mistletoe)
“ enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day”
Supplies BOTH food and water equivalency in nourishment?
"infused with magic for the duration"
Duration of what? The spell duration is instantaneous, so that doesn't make sense. But the spell also states that the potency is lost after 24 hours.
How big are these berries that you can only eat one at a time... are we sure they aren't the size of melons?
So, A LOT of ppl talk about how OP this with Life Domain, but you HAVE to multiclass to get the spell. I personally don't think it's worth the MC to get one spell. You can MC other things to flesh out a MUCH better healer. MHO.
You could just take the Magic Initiate feat instead of multiclassing
The berries are magically enhanced for 24 hours so if you don't eat the berries they lose their potency. The healing is instant the berries are not
Here's a sweet two-minute animated video about Goodberry, titled "D&D 5E a spell that can ruin an entire playstyle." From the Zee Bashew channel.
If you are thinking of including Survival play in your campaign / scenario, one simple house rule tweak prevents the Goodberry spell from utterly ruining it.
So sustaining someone for a day is the same as a full rest?
The vid talked about getting spell slots back after using an action to eat one. I thought it just staved off starvation and gave you 1 hit point
Can you make a pie tho
So, hey.. what happens if you cast this above Level 1? 🤔
Can you shove one of these into an unconscious person's mouth to pop them up to1 hp?
You dont have to multiclass. You can choose the magic initiate feat at level 4 and get goodberry along with 2 druid cantrips
Hey DMs!
Want to bring some "realism" into your game?
Mistletoe (what goodberry uses as a component) is poisonous, any part of the plant sooo...
"All 10 of you make a con save!"
Lemon idea. This spell, by default, uses a sprig of mistletoe as a catalyst, not as a consumed component. It really only makes sense if you think all druid spells inflict poison if the druid has chosen a sprig of mistletoe (which they can choose) as their catalyst. Even if you are homebrewing it to be a consumed component, it's transmutation magic, literally changing how its matter behaves, so not necessarily realistic unless whoever devised this magic thought it was super-effective to poison everyone.
It's harder to Counterspell
The spell doesnt specify willing so RAW you can sling a berry into a dragon's throat and it will lose its action. It's like the berry has a magic recoil that stuns for one action.
As funny as that is. The spell does say "A creature can use its action to eat one berry." so the dragon can just not eat the berry.
Isn't this supposed to be on the Mark of Hospitality spell list?
I love the potion and pie idea... just remember healing properties only last 24 hours
