Utility
A spectral, floating hand appears at a point you choose within range. The hand lasts for the duration or until you dismiss it as an action. The hand vanishes if it is ever more than 30 feet away from you or if you cast this spell again.
You can use your action to control the hand. You can use the hand to manipulate an object, open an unlocked door or container, stow or retrieve an item from an open container, or pour the contents out of a vial. You can move the hand up to 30 feet each time you use it.
The hand can't attack, activate magic items, or carry more than 10 pounds.

Posted Jun 14, 2022Essentially you’ve neglected time and distance. It would take a minute which is traditionally 10 rounds of combat, so it’s not quick at all. And the hand can’t move more than 30ft away, this is drastically less than the 3,175,200 meters needed in a linear path, and if you try using angular momentum you’d be trying to aim when to release while going over 5555 rotations per second. If the players can overcome these issues they should definitely be able to.

Posted Aug 4, 2022Wonder if a DM would let you just have it so it's passively cast so it can carry 10lbs of weight for you nonstop without having to recast every minute.
Probably not tbh.
Also love how a bad of holding is set specifically at 15lbs, and this spell is probably one reason why.

Posted Aug 13, 2022So my Cleric has the healer feat, and plans to get telekinesis at his next ASI.
So with a healer kit and feat, one can "heal" a number of hit points. Mage hand can manipulate an object, like a healer kit.
Is this not a spell slot less healing word?
PS, I think that there will be two turn set up (casting mage hand, then using the kit). But RAW, there is no range on a healer kit to begin with so....

Posted Sep 16, 2022I don't think anyone has brought this up, but can you see through the hand? what I mean to say is, can you use it to scout a room/ hallway/ whatever to know what is going on in that space?

Posted Sep 21, 2022Does the hand provide Haptic feedback? I.E. can it "feel" things? I would think you'd need to, to use it with any level of dexterity. Otherwise you'd crush delicate items when you picked them up. But what aboput temperature? Can you use it to carry a burning coal over to some curtains? If not, then can you damage yourself by plunging the hand into fire, ice, acid, etc?

Posted Nov 9, 2022Probably just DM discretion, but could a sorcerer use metamagic to twin this spell, then perform a 2 handed job? FWIW: My hafling sorcerer would absolutely spend the sorcerer point to twin MH so he could fly 2 middle fingers...

Posted Dec 12, 2022what if "cant attack" means "it doesn't want to attack"?
Edit: this is in response to the argument of mage hand dealing damage.

Posted Mar 26, 2023Because that's not how strength works. Find a child whos muscles have developed just to the point of being able to lift 10 lbs and ask them to throw something and see how well that works

Posted May 23, 2023If the limit of the hand is “Lift an object of 10 pounds” it seems unlikely that it could throw something faster than a person who can only lift 10 pounds. Spells are written to be clearly understood, not in MTG Oracle text clarifying every possible combination of rules. Anyone who wants to nitpick rules should be also like dealing with encumbrance and fitting things into their pack, coin weight, and how much wear your shoes take with all the long walks.

Posted Jun 6, 2023I know this is an older post, but just wanted to throw this out there. I agree with all the points of trying to hack Mage Hand, as they are neither RAW or RAI.
But just to touch on the last bit, the Mage Hand can be invisible if you (a) are an Arcane Trickster, (b) are a Githyanki or Githzerai, or (c) take the Telekinetic feat. Note that for (c) the range is also extended to 60ft if you previously had the cantrip.
For most of the discussion on the invisible aspect, most of the discussion was around Arcane Tricksters, but there's actually, as you can see, a number of ways to get an invisible mage hand.

Posted Jun 30, 2023Here is a fun fact mage hand is capable of traveling from any area in range to another the range itself is a 30ft sphere around you so it can travel from 30ft behind you to 30ft in front of you giving it a movement of 60ft base
Now for my opinion I think that mage hand would be able to carry beyond 10lbs maybe your spell mod multiplied by 5 and/or it should be able to make a ranged improvised weapon attack at disadvantage sense it is unattached from you and you don’t have the proper angle.
