A line of roaring flame 30 feet long and 5 feet wide emanates from you in a direction you choose. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d8 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 2nd.

Posted Feb 4, 2021You don't need to have access to a red dragon sacle to cast the spell, It's very easy, and expected to be, substituted by either an arcane focus or component pouch.

Posted Feb 5, 2021... why? It isn't much different than a level 2 upcast Scorching Ray and WAY worse than Fireball. Also much less versatile/precise than Scorching Ray (but more single target damage so I think the two are comparable).

Posted Mar 19, 2021Hmmmm, interesting...
So I have a question regarding the igniting of flammable stuff and the differences between Burning hands and this spell.
Would the fallen enemies, struck by Agnazzars Scorcher, remain on fire after they've fallen? And if so, is that fire, 'magical' fire or not?
I take it that they do. It's not written anywhere but that makes sense to me.
Furthermore if they do, does that fire spread to flammable objects and then become 'normal' fire that can be controlled (by control fire)? - I've made a call that it does.
But you've written that this is the difference between Burning Hands and Agnazzars Scorcher... and I see that now, so I'm doubting my interpretation.
I have a Pyro Wizard who modelled his character on an Avatar style fire bender, he's all over setting things on fire (Agnazzars, Flaming hands etc) then using the Control Flame Cantrip to manipulate it further...

Posted Apr 26, 2021Its so funny and amazing that people write 5 paragraphs of detailed information and speculation about weather fire spreads and the mechanics of wether it is magical afterwards in this imaginary game about monsters and magic. I love this community. <3

Posted May 3, 2021Looking at lightning bolt, I would say this has an actual damage range potential of max 60 ft. you can start the line up to 30 ft ahead, and continue for the spells 30ft length. Sort of like Fireball, which has a 150 ft range, but if you drop the point of origin at 150 ft, you can hit something 170ft away because the point of origin is the center, and the radius is 20ft. It emanates from you, which means the line for AS must be strait from you regardless of where you start it. Can't create a wall perpendicular to you 30ft ahead. That's my take on it.

Posted May 21, 2021Are you making these up yourself or is there an actual location to where you are finding them?

Posted Jun 22, 2021WoTC doesn't want to assume that players have all of the available books. Their philosophy with DnD is that you only need the PHB in order to play. It's easy to get a subclass offline and use it but harder to have access to all the spells at all times. It might change in the future with things like DnDBeyond available but you still have to pay for access to all of the spells.

Posted Aug 22, 2021Not to mention everyone behind the first person in the line would have half cover (+2 to their DEX save) against the effect.

Posted Sep 14, 2021You're right. I used Mold Earth to reform the stone around a lock so my companions could open a door. That lock would have been difficult to pick with Thieves' Tools, and the door was thick stone, so it would have been very hard to smash open. But I just used an action to cast a cantrip, and voila! The door opens just like that!

Posted Dec 10, 2024People say this should be 3rd level when burning hands can do 3d10 at 2nd level and its a cone. If anything they could change this to a 1st level or some.
