You seize the air and compel it to create one of the following effects at a point you can see within range:
-
One Medium or smaller creature that you choose must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 5 feet away from you.
-
You create a small blast of air capable of moving one object that is neither held nor carried and that weighs no more than 5 pounds. The object is pushed up to 10 feet away from you. It isn’t pushed with enough force to cause damage.
-
You create a harmless sensory effect using air, such as causing leaves to rustle, wind to slam shutters shut, or your clothing to ripple in a breeze.

it would be useful to get enemies out of advantageous positions and escaping grapples, but not much more.

Posted Feb 9, 2022"The object isn't pushed with enough force to cause damage." What if you push an object off of a shelf so it falls on someone? I assume you would use the normal rules for calculating fall damage, because gravity did the work there.

Posted Feb 9, 2022I know this can't disperse gases or fogs, as it isn't a strong or even moderate wind, but here's an interesting thought: Can the gust move gas? It would be fun if you could move a stinking cloud. I'm not sure how far it would move. Solid objects can be moved 5 ft., but a gas seems like it would be easier for wind to move. Maybe 10 ft. This wouldn't be game-breaking, as creatures could easily outrun it. Useful nonetheless in the right circumstances.

Posted Aug 3, 2022That's neat. Yeah I was just thinking about how this spell is technically broken. If you think about it, you can push a fully grown Goliath that ways 600lbs back 5 feet. That's insane. Yet, on the second line. You can only push a loose object 10 feet away. This spell, doesn't make since. Still love it though, I use as an Air Genasi to have a gag flight as level 1. Levitate yourself, so you don't touch anything. Then use gust to push yourself along.

Posted May 11, 2023- If you inscribed using glyph of warding, levitate on page one, to be 5 ft up, page 2 being gust to open the pages . and then using glyph of warding on all the other pages something like fireball? Wouldnt that just be a book constantly firing spells while being in the air? -

Posted Jul 22, 2023This is presented like one of those useless spells along the lines of awful Prestidigitation, but it actually has in-game implications that you can use to cause an effect that is more than just flavor text. For instance, causing a creature to escape from a grapple by simply propelling it away. It's a fair spell for what it's worth, with a niche that, while somewhat situational, is certainly more than enough to warrant taking it as one of your cantrips. There are other spells which push creatures away, but those all require spell slots and this one does not, which automatically gives it an edge in the versatility department.
It's a good spell with nothing particularly wrong with it, and certainly enough utility to make up for how it deals no straight damage. Seal of approval on this one.

Posted Mar 26, 2024The DC for any saving throw caused by a spell is the caster's spell save DC, which is calculated as 8 + caster's proficiency bonus + caster's spellcasting ability modifier.

Posted Mar 27, 2024Why don't either of the Air Genasi versions get this? Seriously, there's a basic elemental manipulation for the basic 4, just make them Genasi inborn Cantrips. Shape Water, Mold Earth, Gust and Control Flame.
