Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The spell creates one more dart for each spell slot level above 1.

Posted Sep 7, 2024Crazy that they didn't clarify if each dart is meant to be individual damage or a single instance, especially for the purposes of concentration and death saving throws.

Posted Sep 13, 2024Pretty sure they did with the use of "a dart" in the wording. It's referring to a singular dart, whereas the next sentence they use "the darts."
Not exactly crystal clear but I'm pretty sure this settles that each dart should be rolled individually.

Posted Sep 17, 2024This description is vague at best. The new PHB states: (Damage against multiple targets) "damaging effect that forces two or more targest to make saving throws against it at the same time, roll the damage once for all targets". There is neither save nor hitroll?
Curious to see where this one will go. I suspect Evoker's & Scribes won't be able to utilize is as before. Wether they will need, I haven't formed an opinion on yet.

Posted Oct 8, 2024So casting this using a 9th Level Slot would mean you are firing 12 missiles for 12d4+12 Force Damage, so you'd be dealing somewhere between 24 to 52 Force Damage if I'm reading the spell description right, that doesn't include any bonuses from your primary stat for spellcasting.

Posted Oct 16, 2024A ninth-level spell slot would fire 11 darts for 11d4+11 damage. That's the three base darts, plus one for every additional slot level (of which there are eight). That's 22-55 damage.
Spells don't add your spellcasting ability modifier to their damage unless they explicitly say they do, which this one doesn't.

Posted Jan 4, 2025I still don't understand how the attacked is defending against the Magic Missile. There is no HIT or Save roll in the spell rule. Does that mean it can penetrate any armor or AC? Or am I just missing something?
In one encounter with a 3rd level Wizard character - alone - took out a Blue Dragon Wyrmling with Magic Missile in 3 turns. MM is cool, but that's not really a balanced fight.

Posted Jan 6, 2025You're not missing anything. There is no attack roll or saving throw; it always hits. The tradeoff is that it doesn't do much damage compared to other, riskier ways of dealing damage.
There are defenses against it that explicitly negate it (e.g. the Shield spell, or the Brooch of Shielding).
A blue dragon wyrmling is a relatively minor foe so that doesn't seem particularly unusual. Most combat encounters in 5e are resolved within three or four rounds anyway.

Posted Jan 8, 2025The Many leads to the Warlock Class on this site, but there is no subclass. Anyone know where the content is hidden?

Posted Jan 31, 2025The comments on the compendium page for a non-Warlock spell is a very odd place to ask this question, but the Warlock subclass "The Many" is from The Griffon's Saddlebag: Book 2. You'd have to actually own that book in order to use it.

Posted May 7, 2025The Empowered Evocation feature specifies that you can add your INT modifier to one damage roll from an evocation spell, so you would only add it to the damage for one dart. Hope this helps!
