You conjure nature spirits that flit around you in a 10-foot Emanation for the duration. Whenever the Emanation enters the space of a creature you can see and whenever a creature you can see enters the Emanation or ends its turn there, you can force that creature to make a Wisdom saving throw. The creature takes 5d8 Force damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. A creature makes this save only once per turn.
In addition, you can take the Disengage action as a Bonus Action for the spell’s duration.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The damage increases by 1d8 for each spell slot level above 4.
This would be great to use with Hunter's Mark! Oh wait... never mind... Hunter's Mark requires concentration...
:(
Is the Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. a typo/error or working as intended? It's a 4th level spell but only gets a bonus when cast above 5? Seems a little weird.
Yea your smoking some good stuff if you think I'm taking Hunter's Mark over this!!!
"Whenever the Emanation enters the space of a creature you can see" is the sort of spell text that should be avoided at all costs. It is now possible to repeatedly toss the party ranger at an enemy and trigger this spell's damage many times in a single round.
Imagine a Cleric who cast Spirit Guardians riding a Druid who Wildshaped into a Warhorse after casting this. Of course, they'd use their Action to ready a Dash. 18d8 damage (81 avg), WIS save for half, to everything you can come within 10' of at level 7. Every round for 10 minutes.
They Massacred My Boy.
My favorite combo is casting the spell before wild-shaping into an owl. Kiting though the battle field. Our other strategy is exploiting once per turn having the rouge disengage after his sneak attack and using my owl form as a portable nuke.
A creature only makes the save once per turn.
And there are quite a few turns per round. Time to toss the owl-sized Druid back and forth, turn to turn, per round, lol.
What does that mean exactly?
The way I understand it is that it only has once chance to make the save per turn, and then take the same save result each time it takes damage each time on the same turn from this source.
Oh nevermind, I misread the part where you have to force a creature to make the saving throw, which would be once per turn.
So the spell states, “Whenever the Emanation enters the space of a creature you can see and whenever a creature you can see enters the Emanation or ends its turn there, you can force that creature to make a Wisdom saving throw.”
Does this mean if a Druid casts this, it has to move the emanation towards the target only for the effect? What if a creature moves into the emanation’s space?
Would value your thoughts.
I answered this over on your forum thread, but I'm going to put it here too just in case someone else happens by with the same question.
The spell will affect a creature if any of the following happen:
However, it can only affect a given creature once per turn, even if more than one of those three things happen on the same turn. (This isn't in the part you quoted, but it is part of the spell description.)
They've finally fixed the upcasting error.
(For anyone wondering, it used to say "level above 5" despite being a 4th-level spell)
So what does the spell actually conjure? Damage?
