Wish
represents the pinnacle of mortal spellcasting—an utterance so potent it can reshape the fabric of existence.
Spell Duplication
The most straightforward use of Wish allows you to replicate any spell of 8th level or lower. When used this way:
- You bypass all casting requirements, including costly material components.
- The chosen spell takes effect immediately, as if you had cast it yourself.
Alternative Effects
Instead of duplicating a spell, you may invoke one of the following powerful outcomes:
- Create an Object
Conjure a non-magical item worth up to 25,000 gp. It must fit within a 300-foot dimension limit and appears in an unoccupied space on the ground that you can see. - Mass Restoration
You and up to twenty visible creatures instantly regain full hit points. Additionally, all conditions removable by Greater Restoration are cured. - Permanent Resistance
Up to ten creatures you can see gain lasting resistance to a damage type of your choice. - Spell Shielding
Grant up to ten visible targets immunity to a specific spell or magical effect for 8 hours. - Feat Replacement
Swap one of your current feats for another you qualify for. You lose all benefits of the original feat and gain those of the new one. You cannot replace a feat that serves as a prerequisite for other features or feats you possess. - Retroactive Reroll
Force a reroll of any die rolled within the last round—including your own previous turn. You may apply advantage or disadvantage to the reroll and choose which result to keep. Reality adjusts to reflect the new outcome (e.g., reversing a failed save or negating a critical hit). - Reality Alteration
You may request an effect not covered by the above options. Speak your wish clearly to the DM, who will interpret its consequences. The more ambitious the wish, the greater the risk of unintended results. Possible outcomes include:
- Partial fulfillment or outright failure.
- Narrative displacement (e.g., being flung into the future to fulfill a death wish).
- Confrontation with powerful entities (e.g., being teleported to an artifact’s current owner).
- Divine interference or cosmic backlash.
- If your wish threatens the multiverse, Sigil, or the Lady of Pain, she may appear in your mind and silently reject your request.
Casting Strain
Using Wish for anything beyond spell duplication imposes severe consequences:
- Every spell you cast until your next long rest deals 1d10 necrotic damage per spell level, which cannot be reduced or avoided.
- Your Strength score drops to 3 for 2d4 days. Each day spent resting and avoiding strenuous activity reduces the remaining duration by 2 days.
- There is a 33% chance that you permanently lose the ability to cast Wish again.
