Empower a melee weapon with Necrotic energy. The weapon will remain empowered for 24 hours or until the wielder of the weapon decides to expend the energy on a successful melee attack.
When expended, the necrotic energy flows into the wound created by the attack, infecting the target and withering them from within, dealing 4d8 instantly and 2d8 Necrotic damage at the start of the victims next turn and every turn thereafter. The victim can make a CON saving throw with disadvantage before the recurring damage is dealt. On a successful save, the spell is ended. If the victim fails three saves in a row or critically fails a saving throw, this spell takes hold and can only be removed by using Dispel Magic with disadvantage or with a Wish.
Damage dealt by this ability heals the user for half of the damage dealt.
At Higher Levels: Every spell slot expended beyond 5th level increases the initial Necrotic damage by 1d8, and every second spell slot expended beyond 5th increases the damage over time component by 1d8 Necrotic damage.
