Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks that observe the Way of Flowing Hands emphasize the importance of speed, precision, and fluid movements over brute force. They are masters of using an opponent's timing and momentum against them to catch them off guard and punish them with quick, accurate blows.

Flow

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you become skilled at redirecting the momentum of attacks, letting them flow around you. As a reaction to a melee attack made against you, you may roll your Martial Arts die and subtract the result from the attack roll. If the attack misses and the attacker is within 5 feet of you, you may spend 1 ki point to make an unarmed strike against the attacker.

Patience

Also at 3rd level, you have learned to conserve your energy so that it may explode forth when you need it. As a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to gain a second reaction until the beginning of your next turn. You can use this bonus action only if you haven't moved during this turn, and after you use the bonus action, your speed is 0 until the end of the current turn.

Precision

Starting at 6th level, you are extremely precise in your technique. When you roll a 1 on your Martial Arts die, you can reroll the die. You must use the new result, even if it is a 1. Also, your unarmed strikes score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Balance

Beginning at 11th level, you have become an expert at using an enemy's own momentum to disrupt their footing. Whenever you hit a creature with the unarmed strike from Flow, you may have that creature make a Dexterity saving throw; the saving throw DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier. On a failed save, you knock the target prone.

Speed

At 17th level, you have learned to amplify your movements with ki. As a bonus action, you may spend 5 ki points to quicken your movements. If you do you gain the following effects for the next minute.

  • You gain 40 feet of additional movement speed
  • You may make an additional attack with the attack action.
  • You may make an extra unarmed strike with the Martial Arts and Flurry of Blows bonus actions.
  • Patience grants you three reactions instead of one.
