Base Class: Rogue
As a master of shadows you take a specialized approach to your craft. While any assassin may skulk through the shadows you have practiced the art of melding into the shadows to become one with them.
Assassinate
Starting at 3rd level, you are at your deadliest when you get the drop on your enemies. You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn in the combat yet. In addition, any hit you score against a creature that is surprised is a critical hit.
Always prepared
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level you also gain the ability to, as a bonus action, create an object of hardened shadow. This construct can take the form of your thieves tools, or a dagger. Objects created with this feature fade back to shadow when they leave the hands of the shadow assassin.
Shadow step
At 9th level, you gain the ability to step from one shadow into another. When you are in dim light or darkness, as a bonus action you can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness. You then have advantage on the first melee attack you make before the end of the turn.
Dark awareness
Starting at 9th level, your connection with the shadows allows you to be ever vigilant. While resting the shadows watch over you. you remain aware of your surroundings within 30ft, even while asleep. In addition you can never be surprised and can take your turn normally in a surprise round.
Shadow projection
At 13th level you gain the ability to project your shadow to any location on the same plane of existence that you are familiar with in which your mark has been made with charcoal, or within 20 feet of a creature that carries your mark. The target location must be in dim light or darkness. As an action you may cast your senses into your shadow self but are blinded and deafened to your physical surroundings. You may speak through your shadow. You may end this at anytime with no action required. In addition a creature may request your shadows presence by being in contact with your mark and focusing on their desire for contact for 1 minute. You are not required to respond in any way but you are aware of the request.
Death Strike
Starting at 17th level, you become a master of instant death. When you attack and hit a creature that is surprised, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, double the damage of your attack against the creature.
Updated to version 1. no mechanical change. just updated some descriptions and made the snippets show.
This is the reason I made this Changeling 1st lvl Trickery Cleric/3rd lvl Rogue Assassin.
In game, when I do the Blessing of trickery, I want to bathe them in physical shadow, which may or may not "baptize" the willing pc.
Maybe the church knows ways to teach rogues how to commune (whispers/eavesdrop) with shadows, in the way druids and rangers can speak with plants??

That sounds like a good reason for a campaign!
I would like to find a way to reunite Mask with its Intrigue Portfolio, and help elevate its status in the Pantheon
Absolutely! Mask is a great deity for a rogue to follow/work with.
This would be a great path, if you follow the God Mask...like, if you work your way up the hierarchy
fun idea
You should make it so when you attack something from behind your sneak attack is doubled
Exactly. Just like the spell "find familiar" and I believe "scrying" as well
I think they mean you your self are blind and deaf to your own surroundings like that one spell where you see and hear through your familiar (ie someone can sneak up on you while you are seeing through the eyes and ears of the other thing)
I left that vague intentionally to allow for all of that, and for a DM to limit it if they thought this would break their game. Personally I play with it working on objects, locations, scars, and tattoos. My party carries a pendant each. My campaign also has a whole guild of shadow Assassin's that only meet via this ability.
TLDR: yes. In my opinion assassin business cards work.
Quick question, can the mark be applied to an object, and used by someone who has that object? I'm asking because of the wording of "creature that carries your mark" whether it needs to be marked on the creature or if they can have, say, a sheet of paper with your mark on it. The possibilities of having a middleman hand out cards to people who need a spy/assassin/group of adventurers is kinda great. Even if the paper thing doesn't work, a back room with the mark to act as a meeting room is great, too.
The idea here with the shadow projection is that you can send your shadow to a different location(location B) and use your senses there, in the shadow body, making you blind and deaf to your physical location(location A).
This ability could be used as a long distance communication tool, or to spy on someone to gather information.
My thought was that because the shadow step feature is pulled from the shadow monk at 6th level, and you get it at ninth here, there should be a little something extra with it. The dark awareness feature is more of a ribbon/flavor ability.
Two abilities @ ninth level?
When you say blinded and deaf to your surroundings what would be the point of marking say a room to send your shadow or a person for that matter since you cant hear any response?
