Base Class: Monk
The Way of the Sword Saint is a monk subclass that delves into the art of combat with a blade, merging martial prowess with spiritual discipline. These monks are masters of swordplay, wielding their chosen weapon with grace and precision unmatched by others. Through rigorous training and enlightenment, they harness the power of ki to enhance their strikes, channeling their inner strength into devastating attacks. As they progress along this path, they unlock ancient techniques and techniques that enable them to dance through battlefields, striking down foes with unparalleled skill and finesse. The Way of the Sword Saint embodies the harmony between mind, body, and blade, forging warriors who are both lethal combatants and spiritual guardians.
Blademaster
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you focus all of your martial arts into your blades. You become proficient in longswords and scimitars, these are monk weapons for you. When you attack with a monk weapon that deals slashing damage and replacing its normal damage with your Martial Arts die, you gain a +2 to your damage rolls.
Additionally, when you use the Attack action with a monk weapon you can use a melee monk weapon instead of an unarmed strike for you bonus action attacks granted by Martial Arts and Flurry of Blows. You must use your Martial Arts die when rolling for damage on these attacks.
Iaijutsu Quick-Draw
At 6th level, you gain the ability to draw your blade quickly and decisively. You add your Wisdom modifier to your initiative rolls. Additionally, you have advantage on your first attack roll against any creature who hasn't taken a turn in combat yet and they have disadvantage on saving throws to resist any of your ki features.
Slicing Winds
At 11th level, you can harness your ki into your blade to create great blasts of compressed air that cuts like a mighty sword. As an action, you can spend 2 ki points to brandish your weapon and send a gust of slicing wind in either a 5 by 40 ft. line, a 20 ft. cone or a 10 ft. radius sphere around you. Each creature within the area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d10 slashing damage or half as much on a success. You can increase the winds damage by spending additional ki points. Each additional point you spend increases the damage by 1d10.
Shinigiri Slash
At 17th level, you can cut into the flow of ki within of your foes, triggering a delayed causality, culminating in a devastating strike. After successfully stunning a creature with your Stunning Strike ability, using a monk weapon that deals slashing damage, you can choose to expend 3 ki points to enter a meditative state of self-inflicted stun at the end of your current turn which lasts until the end of your next turn.
Upon emerging from your self-induced stun, all creatures that were stunned by your Stunning Strike ability on their previous turn must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, they suffer instant death. On a successful save, they take 10d10 slashing damage.
