Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Path of the Dragon Barbarians believe they are reincarnated dragons or dragons trapped in mortal bodies. Their rage comes from their inner dragon expressing a desire for dominance. Through their rage these Barbarians are able to glimpse memories of their past lives as dragons and can use these memories to harness draconic power.

Draconic Magic

When you take this path at 3rd level you gain access to Dragon Magic. This allows you to cast and maintain concentration on certain spells even if you are raging.

You cast your Dragon Magic spells using Draconic Essence. You have 3 Draconic Essence charges that can be used to fuel your spell casting. When you cast a spell higher than 3rd Level you must expend an additional charge to do so.

You gain another Draconic Essence charge at 6th level, another at 10th Level, and one more at 14th Level. You regain all of your expended Draconic Essence charges after finishing a long rest. If you have no draconic essence charges when you finish a short rest you regain two charges.

Constitution is your spellcasting ability for your Dragon Magic spells, since the power of your magic comes from your physical might. You use your Constitution whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Constitution modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a Dragon Magic spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

  • Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier
  • Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier

Draconic Physique

Though you have the body of a mortal, elements of your draconic form remain. When you select this path at 3rd Level you gain the following benefits:

  • Dragon Tongue: You can speak, read, and write Draconic.
  • Dragon Scales: Parts of your skin are covered by a thick layer of dragon scales. When you are not wearing heavy armor or wielding a shield you gain +2 to your AC. While you are raging you gain resistance to fire and cold damage.
  • Dragon Claws: While you are raging, and you are not wielding a shield or holding two weapons your unarmed strikes deal 1d8 slashing damage. This damage increases to 1d10 at 14th Level. Additionally, you can use your hands to cast spells that require a weapon as a material component.

Dragon Rage

At 6th Level, you remember the feeling of unleashing destruction from within. As an action you can expend a Draconic Essence charge to exhale a 15-foot Cone. Each creature in that area makes a Dexterity saving throw, taking 6d6 fire or cold damage (your choice) on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. This damage increases to 8d6 at 10th Level.

Damaging an enemy with this action allows you to immediately use your bonus action to perform an unarmed strike or an attack with a weapon that lacks the special, heavy, or ranged properties.

Unbound Movement

At 10th Level, you remember the sensation of soaring through the sky and diving onto your prey. You take half damage from falling and you can use a bonus action to leap to a point you can see up to 15 feet away without spending any of your movement or triggering opportunity attacks. If you land on a creature after leaping they take 2d8 bludgeoning damage.

Fang and Claw

At 10th Level, you remember the way you used to fight as a dragon. After using your Dragon Rage feature while you are raging you can perform an unarmed strike with the same action and add a +2 to the attack and damage rolls of the unarmed strike.

Devouring Maw

At 14th Level, you remember the desire to consume magical energy to strengthen yourself. As a bonus action you can cast Dispel Magic at no material cost, but you must be close enough to touch the target of the spell. You add your proficiency bonus to the ability check. If you succeed in ending the magical effect you gain a number of Draconic Essence charges equal to half of the spell’s level (rounded down) and you must finish a short or long rest before using this feature again.

Draconic Bond

At 14th Level, you remember the bond you shared with other dragons in your youth. As an action, you can cast Summon Dragon without any material cost and without using concentration. When casting the spell in this way the spells’ duration becomes 1 minute for that casting, and you cannot cast the spell in this way again until you finish a long rest.
