Base Class: Monk
Origins of this Order of Monks are somewhat uncertain but myths and legend tell of a nomadic mercenary band linked to the deity Loviatar, the Lady of Pain. Monks of this path can harness their Ki to resist and inflict pain to devastating affect.
There are two distinct paths for the Way of Tranquil Affliction, the first is considered nefarious, the Order of Loviatar. Largely evil intent and rumoured to rub shoulders with the fiendish, these warriors travel the world (some tales hint even between worlds) seeking to spread pain in the name of the Goddess Loviatar. They are often happy to offer their services to the highest bidder, money can indeed cause a great deal of suffering if applied correctly.
The other less well known order is the Red Monks, who care little for wealth and finery but seek to keep order through the endurance of hardship. Their Monestaries are often in remote mountains such as the Greypeaks in Faerûn and as such are rarely sighted in highly populated areas. They see it as their sworn duty to take hardship as a sacred burden, such that innocents need not endure them. They usually wear red and dark clothing, perhaps to hide the spilled blood of their enemies.
Monks of both Orders seek to overcome the limitations of the physical form and endeavour to reach an enlightened freedom from pain and affliction, or at least the willpower to ignore it.
Members of both Orders are known to partake of ritual scarring which can be in itself agonising. With the use of a special ritual knife, they apply these painful sigils and marks across their whole bodies as a sign of their dedicatiom and resolve. The only exceptions for these marks are the face, hands and feet which must be scarred through combat or physical hardship only. These scars through action are the most prized and respected amongst it's members.
Nerve Pinch
At 3rd level whenever you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can intentionally strike a trigger point or nerve, inflicting overwhelming pain on your target and imposing one of the following Effects on that target:
- It must succeed on a Constitution save or be wracked with pain and knocked prone.
- It must make a Constitution saving throw or be at a disadvantage against you until the start of your next turn
- It can’t take Reactions until the end of your next turn.

Tranquility in Affliction
At 6th level, you gain the ability to surrender yourself to pain and enter a tranquil state in which you are disconnected from your wounds. In this state you can endure more damage than usual and ignore the effect of poisons.
As a reaction action after taking damage, you can focus your Ki to gain resistance to the weapon that struck you. This ability will halve the damage and you then gain temporary resistance to that type of damage. This ability can only offer resistance to one of the following at a time piercing, slashing or bludgeoning.
In this state you are also not Disadvantaged by the Poisoned state.
This can be done a number of times per long rest equal to your wisdom modifier.
Will of the Stoic
By 11th level, you have learned to cast certain spells with the power of you ki.
- 1 ki point to cast Feign Death
- 2 ki points to cast Fear

Waves of Torment
At 17th level, you gain the ability to channel your pain back into a target's nervous system.
- Whenever you are struck with a spell or melee weapon and damaged, you can spend 1 Ki point to hold onto the pain of that wound, noting down the amount taken. You can do this up to 3 times and combine the total number of wounds taken.
After you make a successful Unarmed attack you can choose to unleash that pain back onto a single target to inflict excruciating waves of pain that flood the creatures nerves and overwhelm them.
- The target must make a Constitution saving throw,
- On a Failed Save it takes all of the stored damage and is Stunned.
- On a Succesful Save it takes half damage and is knocked Prone.
When you take a long rest, any stored damage is lost.
