Base Class: Monk
The techniques of the way of the binder are those of suppression and non-lethality. By using holds and grapples, you are able to stop foes in their tracks without having to resort to killing. With your knowledge of ki flow and strength manipulation, you are able to hamper and constrain others with technique and flexibility, rather than brute strength.
Serpent Style
Starting at 3rd level when you choose this tradition, you learn to utilize your dextrous martial prowess and knowledge of a creatures energy flow to outmaneuver and subdue them with ease. When you attempt to grapple a creature, you can add your Dexterity modifier to your Strength (Athletics) checks.
Also, when you make a grapple attempt as part of a flurry of blows, your Strength (Athletics) check is made with advantage. If the grapple succeeds, the target takes damage equal to your martial arts die.
Unbreakable Hold
At 6th level, you learn to cinch down even tighter on your foes, restricting not only their movement but also their ki flow. You can spend 2 Ki points and attempt a special grapple check to impose additional effects depending on the result. If the grapple succeeds, the following effects will be imposed depending on how much your Strength (Athletics) check beats their check made to resist:
- By 10 or more, the creature is restrained and falls unconscious for 1 min (waking up early if it takes any damage or if someone takes an action to rouse them).
- By 5 or more, the creature is restrained and incapacitated until the start of your next turn.
- By less than 5, the target is incapacitated until the start of your next turn.
If you already have the target grappled, they have disadvantage on their check made to resist the effects of this ability.
Dexterous Form
When you reach 11th level in this class, your remarkable flexibility and ki control allows you to easily coil around or away from your foes, regardless of stature. While grappling or being grappled, you can occupy the same space as the other creature, giving you have half cover against ranged attacks. You also have advantage on attempts to resist being grappled and also count as one size larger for grapple checks.
Redirect Aggression
Upon reaching 17th level, you are able to shift your foes around, effectively turning allies against each other. You can use your reaction to attempt to redirect an attack made against you (but not made by your grappled target) to your grappled target by making a grapple check to reposition your target.
