Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Flowing Wind are one with the air around them. They learn wield the wind as a weapon against their opponents, manipulate ki to feel disturbances in the air around them, and practice advanced forms that can buffet opponents with gales or throw lightning.
Flowing Wind Technique
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use the air around you as a weapon. Whenever you use your Flurry of Blows ability, you can make the attacks with a reach of 15 feet. On a hit, the attack deals no damage, but you may impose one of the following effects on that target:
- It must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
- It must make a Strength saving throw. If it fails, you can push it up to 15 feet away from you.
Your ability to manipulate the air has become far more precise. To simulate this, you gain the following benefits:
You may cast the gust cantrip at will.
You may spend 2 ki points to cast either feather fall or fog cloud.
Air Awareness
At 6th level, you are aware of your immediate surroundings through the flow of air as precisely as if you saw them. You have blindsight within 15 feet. You can pinpoint the location of an invisible or hidden creature within 15 feet. You also cannot be surprised by any attack that originates from within that radius. You have advantage on Perception or Investigation checks to find secret doors. Other creatures don’t gain advantage on attack rolls against you as a result of being hidden from you.
Aerial Maneuvers
Your affinity for the air and mastery of its flow can manifest itself as if you had wings. You gain a glide speed of 60 feet.
A glide speed is much like a fly speed, but with some restrictions. When gliding, you must use all of your movement each turn, and at least 5 feet of that movement must be down. You cannot glide upwards.
In addition, the height you can jump is increased by your knowledge of air resistance. You can now jump 15 feet upwards.
Throw Lightning
Beginning at 11th level, you can agitate the air around you to form bolts of lightning, and direct them towards your enemies. As an action, you can spend 3 ki points to throw lightning equivalent to a casting of the lightning bolt spell, or spend 7 ki points to throw lightning equivalent to a casting of the chain lightning spell.
Maelstrom
At 17th level, you have achieved mastery over the atmosphere around you. You may spend 8 ki points to form a small tornado, equivalent to the whirlwind spell. You may also spend 10 ki points to control the local weather as the control weather spell, without the concentration requirement.
