Teacher's Pet

At 2nd level, you have remembered or found spells, or communicated with your teacher giving you 2 extra spells and an extra cantrip that you can copy into your spellbook. This does not affect the number of spells you can prepare. These extra spells are from the wizard spell list, and can be from any level. However, you cannot cast the spell until you have the appropriate spell level available.

Beginner's Spellcasting

Starting at 2nd level, your new spellcasting has become confused! Whenever you cast a spell (excluding cantrips), roll a 1d20 after announcing which spell you plan to use and its level, but before resolving the spell. If you roll a 1, then a different spell is cast instead. These can be randomly picked with a die roll or picked by the game master, but the new spell is from your spellbook. The new spell is cast at the same level that the planned spell was supposed to be cast if possible. If the new spell's lowest level is a higher spell level than the planned spell, the spell sputters out, doesn't cast, and the planned spell slot is used up. If the new spell is lower than the planned spell slot, the higher spell slot must be used, and any increased effects due to the higher spell slot can be used. (Note: The game master and player can choose to start this from level 1 if they choose to.)

Duck and Cover

Starting at 6th level, if you are hit and take damage, you can use your reaction to do one of the following:

  • Hide (if possible)
  • Move up to your full movement in any direction, except towards the creature that attacked you. This does not provoke an opportunity attack from the target you are fleeing from.

Controlled Spellcasting

Starting at 10th level, your Beginner Spellcasting is more controlled. You make the 1d20 roll to see if the spell is a random spell with advantage.

Advanced Spellcasting

Starting at 14th level, you have learned to focus the energy of your spells’ damage. When you roll damage for a spell, you can choose to re-roll any of the damage dice. You can only re-roll a die once and you must keep the new value. The number of dice you can re-roll between long rests is equal to your Intelligence + Proficiency modifier.
