The Order of the Engine Heart is less a true order and more of a myth and fragmented ideology. It came from the works of a powerful wizard who over time transformed himself into a machine. Though the final pages of his diary were lost most in the order believe the wizard ascended to immortal godhood in a mechanical form. They believe that by following in his path they too can ascend from their mortal forms becoming something more at peace and greater.

Followers often live as nomads hiding their practices most of all from one another. The mechanical parts they create take years to perfect and the crystals and magic that power them are hard to come by. Furthermore, the teachings of the wizard were harsh and claimed that only the strongest were worthy to carry these parts. Many have interpreted this to encourage removing parts from defeated enemies or even hunting them down altogether.

Followers are taught to recognize the beauty in nature and learn from the creatures they defeat. Adapting mechanisms from the creatures they create into powerful metallic replicas. They are taught to not value the self but only to value what they can become.

Self Modification

Whenever you attune to a magical item that is not armor or a sheild you may instead choose to mechanically incorporate that item into yourself. If you do you gain the following benefits.

• The item cannot be taken away from you unless you are dead.
• Any magical bonuses that apply to attacks made by the weapon or damage dealt by it are now applied to your unarmed attacks. This does not change the damage die of your unarmed attacks.
• You may spend Ki points to return charges to the magical item.
• You have proficiency with the item and meet any requirements to use and activate the item.
• Your unarmed attacks now count as magical.

You can choose the appearance of your item and what part of you it replaces or augments.

Armored Body

At 6th level, you can replace more of your body with mechanical structures. You may now incorporate armor into your body. You gain proficiency with medium and heavy armor and can sleep comfortably wearing it and it cannot be disarmed while you are alive. You can also use your martial arts abilities, and unarmored movement while wearing armor in this way but not shields. You do not benefit from unarmored defense while using this ability.

Bodily Attunement

Beginning at 11th level, you gain the following benefits.

• You can now attune one additional item beyond 3 to a maximum of 4.
• You can now incorporate two items when you use Self Modification however you must choose before making the attack action which benefits to use for your unarmed attacks.

Engine Heart

At 17th level, you gain the ability to restart your vital functions in the event that they begin to fail. You are a machine beyond even death. At any time you may expend 3 ki points to regain 5 hit points. You may use this ability even when unconscious, at 0 hit points, or even dead. Dying does not count as a long rest.
