Hey guys I am trying to make a custom feat for a character that is like Sherlock from the movies with Robert Downey Jr with Discombobulate. My DM and I agreed how it would work but I am having a hard time making the feat. This is how it is meant to work: If you are within 5 ft of the target you may use this. The target has to roll Dex saving throw and if it is lower than your Dex, the target will be stunned for two turns. This can only be used once per combat. Must be unarmed and this is a bonus action. Damage will be a D6 + STR Mod
So far what I was able to do was get the restrictions in of unarmed and 5 feet, you roll a d6, it is Bludgeoning, and that you can only use it once, however, I can't get the adding of the Strength modifier to the damage and I don't think I am doing the Dex saving throw right because it is always a random number. I am trying to get it similar to other abilities that do that same thing where you have to bet a users stat
I can’t think of anything that works where you need to beat a user’s stat the way you describe. Could you please provide an example?
For most things, you have to either be a Save DC (ability modifier + proficiency bonus), or you have to be an opposed check (like grappling works). The issue that you are having is that you want to save to be based off of your decks, but the damage to take your strength into account. The system is not set up to use two different abilities for the same action. So you could make it that the enemy has to succeed at a Dex saving throw against a DC generated by your Str mod + PB, and then apply the Str modifier to damage; or, you can have it so that the enemy has to make a saving throw against a DC based off of your Dex instead of Str, but then it would have to add your Dex modifier to the damage instead of Str too.
What I was referring to was something like Toll the Dead, I think I have that DC saving throw thing in so if that is what we are talking about I think that is good. The STR thing was because the ability would be something similar to Unarmed Strike, I originally was thinking to have the ability be low damage like either set number or a D4 but the DM said to make it a D6 to make it similar to something like Sneak attack
