I need some help really bad, im trying to make a homebrew medusa. im trying to make it so my medusa has snake hair that does 1d4+dex+1d6 poison (at lvl 6 2d4, lvl 11 3d6 and lvl 16 4d4) yet everytime I try I seem to mess something up and it wont let me add the poison damage to the same attack im also having trouble with making the medusa petrifying gaze 8+con+prof for 1 minute, with you being able to do it number of times x long rest. x being your con mod. if someone can help explain what I need to do ill be extremely grateful
Sounds like the poison damage needs to just be listed in description (and may I suggest a con save for half damage on poison). That should make that much easier.
For creating the action DC, should be as easy as selecting CON as ability mod. For getting it to display in description automatically, tooltips. For the limited use, for the action there is a limited use subsection just fill in ability mod type there, for description also tooltips.
but how do I make it so the snake hair does poison damage, im trying to make this a balanced race and the raw medusa does 4d6 poison damage when she uses her hair
The inference is that you're creating this as a homebrew race, rather than a monster, so help here is based on that assumption.
Venomous Snake Attack
Create a racial trait for this. Include a description & snippet (the snippet is the info that appears on the character sheet).
Modifiers won't really give you what you're after.
The action system doesn't really allow for mixed damage types. In your case, you're trying to deal piercing + poison damage. I suggest instead you look at keeping it as a single damage type, probably poison.
You can configure the action like this:
You'll also want to configure the level overrides at the bottom of the action, so the damage increases with level.
is there a way to make it so you have the piercing damage but can add poison damage to it? like you make 2 different traits and the second one adds additional damage that is the poison?

There are several monsters, spells, and maybe a class feature that does this by putting the additional damage in the description of the attack. That is how it is done. There aren't any modifiers for making an attack that does multiple damage types.

Let's take it back a step for a moment. 😊

Medusa Gaze
Much easier to do - this is just an action.
