I am trying to get all of my players' characters into here so I can share them through a campaign. My first issue is having to buy the books over again... I am still undecided on that point but:
There are issues in creating the characters from the starter set: for example the Half Elf Wizard has Sword and Bow proficiencies which isn't true in DDB and I cannot grant them.
I am going onto the Halfling Rogue next and can already see it is going to be a problem.

If it's the Starter Set that comes with Lost Mines of Phandelver, it's a High Elf not a Half Elf wizard. Select Elf, and then choose the High Elf option from the drop down. For the Halfling Rogue, choose Halfling and the drop down will give an option for Lightfoot. The Human fighters will be the typical humans, not any of the mark or variant versions if you have access to them. The Hill Dwarf Cleric->Dwarf->Hill and you're good.
Ahh. I recreated it and it works. When you change race it doesn't seem to add the proficiencies.
It does, but you won't see it until you change to the character sheet. The character sheet that I have gives the wizard a shortsword instead of a dagger or a quarterstaff, just leave the weapon off and add it separately. It didn't have the vestaments, which you could simply leave off to make up the monetary cost for the difference between the shortsword and the weapon the wizard would normally get. They mixed in some different personality traits with Acolyte ones and some sage ones. You can simply type in the ones you don't find. Here's the one I just made.

Those weapon proficiencies can be added directly to the character sheet by “customizing” the proficiencies section.

You're correct. High not Half..
Fixed that point but... The race doesn't grant those proficiencies?
High elf grants longsword, shortsword, longbow and shortbow proficiency, as does Wood Elf. It's under Elf Weapon Training.
