Whenever myself or my players try to customize their equipment in their inventory it leads to a random string error code with a beholder. If there is anything to do that would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Can you post the url (url, not share link) to one of the bugged character sheets so someone can take a look? As well as say which inventory item was being customized.

The Olisuba Leaf sends me to that api error if I change the notes on the item. Not sure why, does the same thing on a few of my players items.
I was able to customise the item notes just fine, which leads me to an initial thought; are you by chance using any extensions such as Beyond20 or AboveVTT?
I kept getting the beholder error yesterday. Customized a standard Dagger to add +2 To Hit. Went back and deleted the 2 from that box in the sidebar (not changed to 0, just deleted the number) and tabbed out of the text box. Boom. Instant beholder error. Refresh. Go back and either change To Hit to 0 or just Remove Customization.

I was able to replicate your error. When I did so, the browser console gave me this http error:
400 Bad Request
PUT https://character-service.dndbeyond.com/character/v5/custom/value
If I fill in the Notes field, and then later delete what's in that field, it causes the same http error.
Looks like someone on the dev team didn't properly handle null values... Well, either null or empty string.
Edit: It's possible to replace the contents of Notes with a single blank space and not error out, but with the numeric To-Hit Bonus field, a blank space causes the same error. Replacing with 0 is the only option other than Remove Customization.
But with the Name field, you're screwed; deleting the contents causes the error, and leaving a blank space means no label on the item, unless you Remove Customization.
