I was always curious about the Artificer, I rarely see it in many campaigns on YouTube and people had mix feelings about it. Almost similar to the Ranger(don’t fire bolt me, not trying to compare them.) but I’ve seen a ‘few’ that were very interesting. Like this one guy who had a shield that had he could throw like Captain fuking America and it also had blades around it that spun like a chainsaw.
I got to ask you all what were the weapons that you made and how did it work?
Has it every backfired and killed your party or saved them from complete doom?
Can you create More then one or do you have to wait?
Have you ever made a weapon to just troll your enemies?
A returning net. There was debate wether the enemy would remain in the net when it was recalled and my DM said that the enemy got to roll the dc10 strength check immediately and with advantage. So far it hasn’t worked.
I have yet to make a weapon but I have made a WMD by accident. I'm currently a Tabaxi Artificer2/ Cleric of Gond(knowledge)1 and I had a packet of smokepowder. I have since had to promise the rest of Off the Deep End that I will not develop the idea further due to the fact that I nearly killed everyone and would have if we didn't have deathwards. So just so no one else has to learn that Alchemist Fire is stored under pressure here is my story.
So we are in Waterdeep trying to figure out who and what is the cause of the rumors about a gang war. We find the hideout of the rogues and they show us the wagon full of Alchemist Fire(AF). The rogues tell us their plan and we decide to stop them after alerting our patrons of the danger. In a moment of poor planning I think of a plan to disable the wagon. There is one downside that i could see right off the bat and that would be blowing up myself. Luckily or unluckily I didn't blow myself up nor did the wagon after I tied the packet to a bolt. So the next turn comes around and I set off the SP with firebolt. The resulting exsolution took out the rogue mooks and at least half the boss and LT hp. It also took the all but 2 of the party in the room out but we were on deaths door except one of us. Oh, I set the Court of the White Bull on fire by accident and I do mean ALL.
My little Artillerist gnome multiclassed into Rune Scribe and has turned her smithing hammer (a Light Hammer) into a small, fiery version of Mjolnir. With the returning weapon infusion she can hurl it at the enemy, and with the Fire and Stone runes infused on it, it does fire damage that she gets to reroll and take the higher value - if it rolls max damage (roughly a 1 in 3 chance) whatever it hits is knocked prone.
She was raised by Dwarves, and when she gets to a high enough level she's going to use that experience to construct a proper Dwarven Thrower.

While it sounds like a heck of a weapon, it also sounds like you have 3 separate infusions on it: returning, Fire rune, & stone rune ( both of the latter non standard infusions, or are the runes not infusions but carved into the hammer enchanting it in which case the infusion shouldn’t activate as you can’t infuse a magical item)
The runes themselves aren't infusions and the way they're worded don't make them magical weapons, so it allows you to stack them on a single weapon that works with Returning.
To be fair, this was the original Rune Scribe UA which got reworked into the runes from Storm Kings Thunder. On board with DM approval :)
Nah, it doesn't give her that ability, but I might ask my DM if he'll let me reflavor a Boots of Flying infusion to work with the hammer when we get to that level!
I'm sure going to flavor Fly as using it though! :)

Damn, sorry mate.

Sounds epic! Question, could you fly with it or is that to much?
