With the release of the new artificer the armor replication feature for the armorer has been severely nerfed. The unearthed arcana artificer had access to uncommon and rare armor and weapons but now only common armor and weapon can be replicated. The only armor the armorer can now pick is common armor, 1+ armor, 2+ armor, and elven chain. This has to be an oversight as it severely hampers the armorer. If I was a DM I would allow access to uncommon and rare armor where applicable. Seriously the whole limiting it to just wondrous items is so stupid.
I specifically would like the Artificer to have access to mithral armor, for the weight benefit. Artificer already has to carry so much gear.
Keep in mind that you can still craft magic items like that using the normal crafting rules, and Armorer Artificers can do it twice as fast as normal.
Sure. Of course you'd need the material, the downtime, and the gold. 5 days instead of 10. In the end not really that different from any other player just deciding they want to craft it.
It just seems like the kind of thing that really fits the Artificer, doesn't break the game at all, and is a huge benefit to any table tracking encumbrance.

But you're also getting free Plate armor 7 levels ahead of when Fighters were expected to have access to plate armor.... and they still have to pay for it. The old rules were you enchanted existing armor with the infusions. Now you just outright create them out of thin air with replicate. I would not complain about having to craft uncommon or rare tier magic armor, when 90% probability that your DM overlooked the crafting rule that you're supposed to also pay the gold cost of the mundane base item prior to enchantment.

I'd rather have a mithral chain shirt than plate, and again, I'm just looking for armor that's lightweight because I'm having to carry 20 pounds of tools with me everywhere. Studded leather armor (the base equipment that comes with the class) weighs 13 lbs, and so that's 33 lbs before you even put any clothes on or carry water or rations.
Plate armor weighs 65 lbs so if you use the variant encumbrance you'd need at least 13 strength to wear it carrying nothing else. But even if you're using standard encumbrance, you're at risk of going over weight for a typical artificer build wearing plate with all the gear you need.
Lightweight armor also seems to fit the concept of magically replicated armor that is created from nothing better than 65 lbs of metal armor, IMHO.

No, it's not an oversight. There were two Unearthed Arcana entries for the Artificer. In the first one, they could create up to Rare Armor, Rings, Wands, and Weapons. Immediately, people jumped on the potential abuse of Enspelled Weapons and Armor. Then Eberron Updates reduced it to a curated list. Wonderous Items remains an unfiltered list.

Several specific uncommon and rare weapons are available, as well as the generic +1 and +2 weapons.
It seems highly unlikely that this is an oversight, however frustrating it might be.

I have issues with the new Artificer class, but it is more with other areas (and I don't like Item Summoning).
