I've been theory crafting this one for a minute actually, and I think there probably isn't a better sub-class for Ancestral Guardian than Echo.
The main benefit being that you can stay at a range and force people to have to deal with your echo or with you directly, imposing disadvantage and resistance on everything that isn't you also in fact includes your echo, so you are forcing people to swing at preferably your echo while you are sitting 30 feet back reckless attacking through the echo while they are trying to hit a minimum of a 17 AC (by the time you have both abilities anyway.) on disadvantage is actually pretty hard for most things at 6, not to mention spirit shield and shadow martyr are insane together.
so in my humble opinion, stick a glaive on a barb/fighter and take sentinel and watch everything fail to get away from the echo, and if they do manage to do so, you can just swap places with the echo when something comes near you.
I would do 6-9 Barb 4 levels of Echo Knight....lots of great combat options without taking it all on yourself. Echo gives you an extra reaction or teleport attack position....if you have a Wiz in your party with Haste...you'll be a killing machine. I'm doing one with Ax and Board....dmg is lower but def is better.
If you like the tank aspect stick with this but if you want more support/debuff I’d suggest armorer artificer for multi attack will get you the disadvantage portion on every single enemy you hit, so you hit one, you echo hits one, get mobile feat and you can do unleash incarnation on another creature and late have access to haste for another attack, and can get two weapon fighting if that bonus action isn’t taken that turn, and of course action surge so you can give an entire party disadvantage on everyone but yourself, if your hasted RUN, if you don’t like haste then maybe use fog cloud or major image as concentration to get away

Hey all!
Trying to create a char for a new campaign - was thinking of Barb/ fighter - trying to be a tank ( with decent damage) that keeps his team safe
If anyone has built a similar build would love advice on the build/ any ideas for it
