Reading through the XGtE's feats, I noticed that Dwarven Fortitude allows you to use your a hit die to heal during combat, given you use take the dodge action.
As a monk, you can spend 1 Ki to use the dodge action as a bonus action, allowing you to heal yourself a bit during battle while also being harder to hit for that turn.
Way of the Kensei allows you to get a bonus +2 AC each turn.
And if you choose Hill Dwarf, you get +2 Con, +1 Wis, and +1 HP each level. You're getting half the bonus of another +1 in Con, which helps with the Monk's lower hit dice pool.
All those combined gives you a pretty decent front line attacker as a monk.
I'd say it's a very solid combination. Obviously you won't be able to shrug off as much damage as most barbarians, or deflect as many hits as a fighter/paladin in full plate & shield, it definitely seems quite viable from every angle I can think of.

It's a good idea, although taking the feat slows your Dex progression and is still limited by hit dice.
