Hi, everyone! I'm working in a series of articles for my blog dedicated to each of the 13 classes, and I plan to finish each one with a short list famous examples of such class in fantasy tropes, be it novels, movies, TV shows, comics or video games.
(Extra XP if you also include some details about the reason for your ideas and what you like or don't like about the class, both as a player or DM)
Having said that, what characters come to your mind when thinking of MONKS?
To me, what makes a monk is their speed and agility. Aside from almost every character in almost every martial arts movie, the character that particularly comes to mind for me is Faith Connors from Mirror's Edge.
When we look at the common inspiration for the D&D Monk, we think wuxia. So figures in Chinese history and martial arts films are our defaults.
We think of Bruce Lee, whose deeds go without question as the example of an Open Hand Monk. The Bride from Kill Bill also fits this description due to displaying a film equivalent to Quivering Palm.
To give an example for the Drunken Master, we have Jackie Chan’s portrayal of Wong Fei-hung. Or numerous drunken monks from video games.
For the Kensei, I would go with Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman. Technically, he might count more as a Samurai, but his blind fighting style would require both swiftness and heightened awareness of his surroundings. Lends better to go with a Monk/Fighter multiclass.
Roger Wilco: Space Quest - especially Space Quest Incinerations (and the fight with the antagonist predominantly).

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
