I'm the fresh dnd player, I made Paladin from Oath of Redemption, but unfortunately I cannot play such a path like that, my decision and statements defile the good name of Paladins. In my history my mother was kidnapped by some brotherhood, and despite becoming a Paladin my anger kept growing. We thinking with GM to change the Redemption to homebrew Oath of Shadows trough a traumatic circumstance.
What do you think ?
PS: That spell from Oath of Shadows "Blackout" how to use it and what its best for ?
If your DM allows it, then you can change oaths. It will also be up to your DM to decide how that will work.
Most of us aren’t going to be familiar enough with a homebrew to give you advice, there. But I will say, if you are new to the game, it is best to avoid homebrew. Many of them are either too strong or too weak.
That sounds like it could be a good backstory for a rage monster Barbarian. Consider changing class if you like that option, and your DM is ok.
If you stay with Pali and think about Vengeance or Conquest.
On the other hand, why did you choose Redemption to begin with? Its an interesting role play / character development option, to have someone who comes from a horrific situation and tries to be the force for change and reconciliation in the world.
I literally just finished the stats and equipment portion of the Mountain Dwarf Paladin (I just need a fleshed out backstory). Obviously whatever you and your DM decide works will work, but I recall a section in the Paladins class regarding Oathbreakers.
As a brand new player myself, and this being my first character ever, I'd want to see where an Oathbreaker Paladin takes me before I went homebrew. I chose the final Oath listed because it was the most flexible and I knew I'd probably end up in your situation if I chose either of the other two.
That's just what I would want to do, being as new as I am. You do you, man. So long as DM is down. Happy Rolling!
Until the spell ends, nonmagical sources of light are suppressed while you are within 20 feet of them, causing them to generate no light. This spell does not block light that originates from sources outside the range of its effect.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the range of the effect increases by 10 feet for each slot level above 1st. At 2nd level, light created by a cantrip-level spell is also surpressed. At 3rd level, lights created by 1st-level spells are supressed, etc.
Well, if you have dark vision, it would be great for you. Cast this, and in the dark area, all your enemies will have disadvantage to attack you (assuming they don’t have have dark vision). Also, casters who can’t see you can’t target you. You can still get caught in an area spell, but nothing against an individual target.
I’ll agree with Xalthu here. I love Homebrew and I’ll be the first to tell you to avoid it when first starting out as much of it is not the best balanced, and just learning the regular game is enough of a challenge sometimes.
Well, it's hard to know what fits best for your character with knowing anything about your character. That said, if you are angry a lot then conquest or vengeance sound better than the more angsy shadow. But again,, hard to know.
