Its a pick your poison kind of situation. Delaying your spellcasting progression is not going to be for everyone, but it really depends on how heavy on the spell slinging you're focusing in on. Personally, I generally go Paladin 6 first, since my priorities in combat don't change by much aside from getting access to more spellslots afterward and lends itself to the build of being a magical warrior more seamlessly I find. And I've played quite a few Sorcadins that go every which way as far as leveling goes.
Like I said though, waiting on doing the things you want your character to do is a big problem with this multiclass, and you're not looking at your character coming "online" so to speak until about level 11 if you're focusing on the Paladin class first. If the Sorcerer had a proper crossover Sub-Class that dips into melee efficiently like the Hexblade or Blade-Singer wizard, it wouldn't be so much of a problem, but unfortunately we haven't had any decent content in lieu of that sadly.
ok, I saw this guide and im trying it right now. currently playing AL on lvl6 (paladin4/Sorccerer2) and so far im loving it! just a few questions though:
what does th enumber in open/close parenthesis means? (9,2,5,0,12,7)
Abilities: STR [15(9) + 1], DEX [10(2)], CON [13(5) + 1], INT [8(0)], WIS [12(4)], CHA [14(7) + 2]
and does "Quickened Hold Person/Monster + Booming Blade + Smite" really works? how can you smite when booming blade is considered a SPELL action? cant use EXTRA attack since its suppose to be an ATTACK action.

Divine Smite is triggers off of hitting a creature with a melee weapon, not taking the Attack action. Booming Blade involves you making an attack with a melee weapon. If that attack hits, the Paladin has fulfilled the prerequisite for adding Divine Smite on top of the weapon attack & BB damage.
You are correct that Extra Attack cannot be utilized in this combo, but that's not really the goal anyway. The point of Hold Person or Hold Monster is to ensure the target is Paralyzed. This grants advantage to the attack rolls, and a hit is an automatic critical. Whatever you unload this combo on is going to die.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
to get an auto crit from Hold Person is such an extrem bust for a paladin/sorcadin. A Level 5 char ( 4 Pala/1 Sorcerer ) can deal: longsword 2d8 + green flame 2d8 +
smite 4d8 (by just use of lvl 1 spellslot ) and to a second creature 2d8 + charisma. This is just brutal.
On average: Longsword 9 slashing dmg ( strenght score of +3 ) goes to 12 dmg + green flame 9 fire dmg + smite 18 radiant dmg = 39 dmg
second creature : green flame 9 + charisma ( charisma score of +3 ) = maybe 12 fire dmg
not a lot of encounters can handle such an input and on top, i cannot think of a monster who has resistenz to slashing, fire and radiant dmg :)
Posting to follow, the very first character I ever played when introduced to D&D was a wild magic sorcerer, back during the Beta testing days prior to the PHB being released. Reading this and thinking about remixing that character into something like this. the campaign I played in we (the players) decided not to multiclass as we were all pretty new to D&D.

ok, I just turned 20. playing on AL season9. this is so far the best class ive played. just two questions
ive noticed that you wont have all the spells written above, ive only got the last 6th level spell. and theres no more slot for me for two level 7th spell. (gravity and teleport). is that correct or I did something wrong?
also thoughts on tweaking the stats? I have found a belt of giant strength which gives me 29STR. I have an archmagi which means I have advantage on spells. but DM is always throwing some Dex Saviing throws (traps, envirnomen etc). planning to ccreate a new dex base paladin and obtain all the other magic items).
I’ve seen a lot of guides for this build saying that if you go Great Weapon Fighting, you DONT need warcaster for somatic/material components for the sorcerer spells... but I just don’t understand how you can have a 2-handed weapon to attack with and still have a hand free with your Arcane focus. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Side note: I understand Sword and Board is out of the question. I just simply want to know if I can take GWF and still cast the full range of sorcerer spells without Warcaster
Thanks for the response ! Interesting you mention what your solution as a DM is. Turns out they actually added this exact thing in XGtE... Ruby Of The War Mage. Common magic item but requires attunement. So I’ll talk to my DM about getting one of those
Yeah, I know about that. It seems like a dumb item though, you can attach a normal gem to a sword IRL, so why not in dnd?
But then again, if you're DM doesn't allow you to do that, I can't really help.
Another Idea one of my PC's had was a character who started as a wizard and then muticlassed into fighter. They were using a rod as their arcane focus, so I allowed them to take the blade of a sword and attach it to the rod.
Nonetheless, It shouldn't be too hard to get your DM to just give you the magic item. Some DMs I know don't even require you to use arcane focuses or material components at all, based on the campaign you're playing in.

During your turn, let go of the sword with one hand (costs no action), cast your spell(s) (action and/or bonus action), use your free 1/turn Use Item to re-ready the Greatsword. You can mix that up with swinging the Greatsword as you like. But while that frees up your hand for Somatic and therefore Material components, I wasn't aware any GMs made you actually touch your focus to cast. The rules block states you can use a focus in place of components, then says you need a hand free for the components, so I've always played it that you just need the focus in your inventory.
For a melee sorladin build, I recommend PAM + war caster pali 12 sor 8. Lots of spell slots for smite + improved divine smite is crazy good with PAM, and you can quicken hold person for two auto crits in one turn which is insane considering you can smite with a 4th level spell aka the eqaul to a 9th lvl smite (which doesn't exist but if if kept going it would).

What about Paladin 4, Sorcerer 2, Paladin 6, Rest Sorcerer?
Like this you get the Aura on lvl 8 and you have Sorcerer Points and the first spells unlocked
Currently my Paladin is Pala 4/Sorc 1.
i have a question about green flame blade and critical hit.
green flame blade does on lvl5 1d8 aditional dmg on hit and 1d8 + charisma on the second.
if i use smite on a 1st level spell it does 2d8 dmg.
do i see it correct, on a crit the longsword does 2d8 + green flame 2d8 + smite 4d8 and to the second creature 2d8 + charisma in dmg?

the numbers are the point-buy costs for the stats. +1 strength and +2 charisma are the half-elf features.
for point-buy: you have 27 points to buy stats if you do so. you can also roll stats, its up to your dm and campaign

6 levels Paladin for their aura and extra attack.
2 levels of Hexblade for the Hex features and Invocations.
12 levels of Divine Soul for spell slots.
I don't think war caster gets you con save proficiency. I think you mean advantage.

No, you can't. But that being said, you can cast spells that have somatic components only while wielding a greatsword.
In addition, I, as a DM, allow my players to put an arcane focus in the hilt or flat of a sword and use it as their arcane focus, without war caster.
Then again, I'm probably not your dm, so ask yours before deciding whether or not you get war caster for your build

This build is excellent, but bear in mind the Tasha's nerf to Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade.
