Fair enough that still doesn't change the fact that the ability slayers eye doesn't specify how long it lasts making the rest requirement useless. Lol
I think the rest part is just to say you have to be able to see the enemy you would like to target again after a rest.
Queue scenario, you're tracking down Mr. Bigs who is running from the law, you have him in your sights but he gives you the slip, but you are tenacious and continue to track him tirelessly, over hill and dale through forest and across a brook, nothing will deter you. But eventually all humanoids need some rest, and you can't keep tracking someone forever. So after two days of following this dude you you take a rest, but have to go back to tracking him the old fashion way because you lost your focus. That is unless you can get close to him and then you start the chase again.

"Where words fail, swords prevail. Where blood is spilled, my cup is filled" -Cartaphilus
"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
But since there isn't a limit on the power. I.e. that it isn't based on a modifier or number of uses, saying you get it back at a rest is unnecessary. That's all I'm saying.
The only thing they really changed, just from the sound of it, was made it less attached to the Underdark. When the Deep Stalker was first made for Unearthed Arcana, it was when the newest campaign was Out of the Abyss, and the UA openly suggested the classes contained in it as options for the campaign.
What interested me about the video they did for it was that they confirmed it would keep the bonus spells. I'd wondered if Xanathar's Guide would have all the new Ranger conclaves get bonus spells, or if they'd dump that feature, and if the Gloom Stalker is getting them, I'd assume the others would.

Super excited to find out.
