I have a Ranger/Hunter character and I am thinking about a dip into Rogue to pick up some features. My point of confusion is how would Ranger's Natural Explorer doubling of proficiency bonus for Int/Wis skills interacts with Rogue/Scout's Expertise on skills. So, does this result in two doubling(s) of the proficiency bonus for a skills like Nature or does only one bonus apply? Is there an official ruling on this?
They stack. Natural explorer is temporary and only useful in the particular setting and is specifically worded as doubling proficiency. If it was worded as expertise I would say no cause expertise doesnt stack, but its worded as doubling proficiency.
Thanks Fattsgalore for catching that. This character is in an AL ToA campaign at the moment. Though he is a half-elf, I dumped charisma (10). I don't think swashbuckler will bring as much value. Maybe just a two level dip into Rogue for expertise and cunning action. As the party's main archer, I think the expertise bump to stealth and being able to use my bonus action to disengage would be valuable. Sneak attack is also a nice little bump, especially when combined with hunter's mark and colossus slayer.
Any thoughts, where I should apply the second expertise bump since Int/Wis skills are effected by natural explorer?
Taking stealth is a great option. I'm not sure of the skills you took or what your character is like.
Perception and insight are always a good choice, and the fact you dumped Cha is a good reason to actually bump one of those stats. I've never played Tomb of Annihilation nor watched any streams for it, but I'm wondering if expertise with thieves tools would come in handy for disarming traps or what have you.
Natural explorer wont work everywhere. Not sure a dungeon in the forest is still considered forest for Nat Exp. I'd consult with the DM.

Nice choice by the way.
And you spell it Rogue, not rouge.

My bad, truly. l'll do better to only give 100% verified information from now on.
Dip into rouge swashbuckler instead.
