Hello, just looking for thoughts. I'm sending a party on a small one-shot (over probably 3 sessions) where they're all working for a new Patron (that new Patron largely goes away after the one-shot). At the end of the adventure, they'll be getting the standard advancement along with the option to: a) either get 1 level of multiclass warlock or b) if they really care about being able to keep their lvl 20 options, give them a homebrew feat that gives them many of the abilities of a level 1 warlock.
But I just don't think that makes much sense for warlock characters. I could just give them an extra level but I don't really like the idea because a) they'll end up getting there anyway and b) its saying one Patron is rewarding the character for doing something for another Patron (which sure, can work, but still doesn't feel interesting).
so I was thinking about cross-patron rewards...lets just pretend you are a tier 2 Fiend Warlock and your party is working for The Undying for this one-shot (just saying 'hey, the Patron assigning the mission is The Fiend and forget about the Undying' doesn't work for the story)...would rewarding the level 6 Patron benefit 'Defy Death' be an interesting and worthwhile reward?
Any other ideas on what one Patron would reward a character that serves another Patron...that wouldn't aggravate that other Patron? (an extra cantrip - meh...an extra spell slot - suspect that's OP...a couple extra available spells - feels kinda weak).
Well.. I have a suggestion.. what if you gave them a "second" background. I this case Retainer variant noble; What if the second patron had one of his Prime Warlocks give the secundus warlock some small Lands. These lands that were able to Pay skilled Retainers to care for the Warlock, in town and when safely traveling. IE Cook for food, Valet for fine clothes, and Err.. somebody else possibly animal handler for the wagon, horse, or carrage. Remember none of the money goes to the warlock.. it pays the retainer's salary and a bit more [10gp per day total for all three combined].. And they spend a total of that needed to take care of the 'Sire' Warlock in fit style. If you think about Fine clothes what you may not realize to clean them mundanely they actually had to take them apart and Clean pieces separately.
And of course, all three are spies for the Prime warlock to keep an eye on this secundus warlock. Oh.. and it would give the party a small isolated base /farm to plot things.
You could make homebrew feats that mimic the pact boon options, or at least are inspired by them. Between the 3 (or 4 with talisman) of the pact boons, there's something for everyone. They're also not overly powerful, so they probably won't throw off character balance/builds too much.
Another option would be to just give everyone the Eldritch Adept feat. This would still give players a choice of what to receive, and could benefit any character, but would not require any homebrew.

Just brain storming.
Itinerant Deputy Shire-reave Tomas Burrfoot - world walker, Raft-captain, speaker to his dead
Toddy Shelfungus- Rider of the Order of Ill Luck, Speaker to Friends of Friends, and Horribly big nosed
Jarl Archi of Jenisis Glade Fee- Noble Knight of the Dragonborn Goldcrest Clan, Sorcerer of the Noble Investigator;y; Knightly order of the Wolfhound

I would suggest feats. Any feats, unless there is a certain Warlock-y feel you want to have.
But the feat was granted by the warlock and the taint would be on them in that respect.
What about keeping it simple and rewarding everyone with either an Epic Boon or a Supernatural Gift from the DMG?
hmm, i like this one too...sometimes the obvious answer is the hardest to see. Thanks!
