I'm creating a 5th level Warlock, and I'm not sure I'm following the rules for "Spells Known".
As a 5th level Warlock, I can learn spells up to 3rd level, and DnD Beyond is more than happy to let me choose five 3rd level spells to fill those slots. But is this actually legal? Since warlocks can only upgrade a single spell every time they level up, a warlock character who hypothetically reached lvl 5 couldn't possibly have all lvl 3 spells, even though D&D Beyond permits it, can they?
The best way to do this when you're unsure of the rules is to create a level 1 warlock, set up all your stuff the way you would at level 1, then level it to 2 and make all your level 2 decisions. Repeat until your designated level. Simply step through the leveling process and make valid decisions at each level until you get where you need to be.
Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the warlock spells you know and replace it with another spell from the warlock spell list
So, once you hit level 5, you can gain one 3rd level spell and change ONE other spell for a 3rd level spell. So, at level 5, you should have a maximum of two 3rd level spells (and six spells known, not including cantrips).

DDB does not automate every little rule. At level 5 a warlock can know (per RAW) up to 2 level 3 spells or lower spells and 4 level 2 or lower spells.

Agreed, this is how I do it when I'm creating a PC that isn't 1st level.
