I saw this and immediately thought that this feat is really useful for a Warlock (perhaps even OP). Being able to quicken EB or change all those fire spells to another damage type seems like a huge benefit. I know plenty of concepts involve dipping both classes for this effect, but any thoughts on the usefulness of taking this feat for a single class Warlock build?
The Metamagic Adept feat only provides you with 2 sorcery points, so you would be able to Quicken (1) Eldritch Blast per day, or Transmute (2) spells per day.
Neither of which is going to significantly impact your day. You would be much better off taking the Eldritch Adept feat as a Sorcerer.
A better option would be to use Extend Spell to increase the value of your long duration spells.
Already playing a Warlock with lots of blasty spells. I'm thinking the option of Quicken and Twinning would be useful even at once or twice per day. Compared to taking the ASI to move to a 20 CHA, which would be more *bang* for the buck?
Twinning requires 1 sorcery point per level of the spell, so once you've reached 5th level, you wouldn't really benefit. I wouldn't waste the feat on it. The ASI is going to make you hit harder, and improve your Save DC, which is important when you only have 2 slots per rest.
Though, you might want to take the Eldritch Invocation feat to get access to an extra invocation depending on your build, as you'll be able to swap it out later as you level.
If you want versatility, Magic Initiate or Ritual Caster will give you Find Familiar and more options that aren't limited by your spell slots.
When you're already doing damage decent damage, it's often better to focus on synergy, such as casting through a familiar, or using Push/Pull rider effects control the battlefield.
Thanks for the feedback. I went Pact of the Chain, so I already summoned a familiar. And the imp has been extremely versatile.
My thoughts for the feat was that it would allow me to use Twinning on EB, or Quicken a spell at the right moment. Your point on the spell level is correct; perhaps Empowered Spell would be better since it helps re-rolling some bad dice.
The Eldritch Adept does have some perks in that another Invocation is always useful. Just looking to weigh the benefits of maxing my primary stat versus gaining access to a piece of the Sorcerer class without having to burn levels in multi-class, or adding some of those chain pact Invocations earlier.
“To be eligible, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell’s current level. For example, magic missile and scorching ray aren’t eligible, but ray of frost and chromatic orb are.”
Once you hit higher levels EB is capable of targeting more than one creature similar to scorching ray and magic missile. I had had the same thought earlier when looking at a level 4 feat for my current warlock.
If your a non sorcerer I really feel the best choice for the feat is subtle spell since it basically turns it into a stealthy cast. If the warlock has something that could take advantage of that twice a day I'd say go for it. If not I feel like the other metas are to restricted at 2 spell points, unless yeah you run into a lot of fire resistant stuff.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I completely agree with you. I wouldn't get this feat for a warlock.

Take 4 levels of Sorcerer and get Quicken spell. you have 4 sorcery points, plus you can sell your pact magic for more...and get the magic back after a short rest. Wala: double the Eldritch Blasts for the nest Big Boss fight.
I have a 4/4 Hexblade sorcerer. 4 sorcery points plus 6 more for my renewable pact magic is 10 points for the day. I have never run out of points. at 5th level Hex I will have 12 total points to play with (casting at third).
Moral of the story: A build is better than a Feat.
I think some of the posts here have missed one crucial detail...namely Extended Spell. It only costs 1 Sorcery Point, which allows for two extended castings per long rest. It allows you to get far more use out of spells like, say, Foresight. With Extended Spell, you can cast Foresight before an 8-hour long rest, and still have 8 hours of Foresight the next day.
Granted, this strategy is more useful for a wizard (Foresight active AND a 9th level slot in the morning...yes please). However, extended spell (or even Subtle Spell to avoid enemies counterspelling your limited spells) is useful. Not as useful as an ASI, perhaps. But still good. Frankly this is a 5/10 for me. Situational, but occasionally very good.
I don't see much point in getting most of the metamagic abilities on a warlock. Two points just feels too limited for much beyond a niche trick. Once a day Quicken Eldritch Blast? Okay, but is it worth an entire feat? Subtle spell? Well, the times I play warlock, I usually end up with Rod of the Pact, which I want to use for the benefit in raising DC. Which defeats the whole purpose of having Subtle Spell. And Hex requires a material component, which Subtle doesn't get rid of, and Hex is one of the best social spells, especially if you have a familiar that can use the Help action to help you out. Disadvantage to you and Advantage to me? Yes please!
Extend Spell is probably the best option, mostly to take advantage of short rests. A lot of spells, like Summon Fiend or Armor of Agathys, have a duration of 1 hour. Generally speaking, these spells can be cast before you launch an attack, but won't last the duration of a short rest. With Extend Spell, you can have these spells last up and running, then take a short rest. You now have refreshed your spell slots, plus have the normal duration of the first two spells. This allows you to cast two more buffs, or you can save them for the fights.
Yeah, the feedback from everyone has made it clear that at 4th level its better to just take the ASI and max CHA. Was looking for a way to get a taste of the sorcery class resource without going multiclass (empowered spell for those low output fireballs, or bonus action EB). But it seems the limits don't lend to making it a good fit.
I suppose there are no non-homebrew magic items that add to sorcery points?
no, sorcerers would be on those like white on rice lol

Technically anything that restores spell slots, like a Pearl of Power, can be converted into Sorcery Points, but only if you have the Font of Magic class feature, which would obviously require multiclassing.
Interesting note, since a Pearl of Power requires attunement, but can only be used once per dawn, a Sorcerer could carry a handful to swap one out at each short rest to regain a spell slot similar to a Warlock's Pact Magic. As a single item, it can be difficult to justify wasting an attunement slot on a Pearl of Power, but as a 1/rest ability, it becomes a lot more viable.
Well, this is less about the limits of metamagic, and more about how the playstyle between the two classes differs. There's a reason the sorlock never gets more than 2 levels- little synergy between them past Agonizing blast

I am not sure why I have never thought of this before. Bugger this would come in handy for me!
I just leveled up to 17 as a warlock. I took metamagic at 16 in anticipation of foresight. It almost feels like cheating to have one feat that gives you advantage on nearly everything and gives disadvantage against you.
when I first thought about it, I assumed I could use spell slots to get sorcery points then take a short rest and be back to full. But the feat only gives you sorcery points, not the font of magic so you can’t convert points and slots.
Just a reminder: Warlock can recharge the sorcery points.
At the end of 1st short rest, converting one of the pact slot into sorcery points. Then take the 2nd short rest to gain back the spell slot. So it is possible using more of those ability.
The risk is that if the 2nd short rest is incomplete, the warlock would end up one less spell slot.

Just know that you can’t actually twin EB.
The wording for twinned spell in the PHB goes:
“To be eligible, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell’s current level. For example, magic missile and scorching ray aren’t eligible, but ray of frost and chromatic orb are.”

yeah you do get 2 options so you could pick quickened and subtle, so either two subtles or 1 quickened spell a day. Just very restrictive for a feat
