I'm usually a fighter type player and I kinda like doing multi-classing. What I learned from my previous experiences was that I should not spent too much level in the secondary class. (Usually 2) I'm about to start a new campaign, and with that I wanted to do something different. I will be playing a caster type for the first time and even if I know spells and stuff (not all of them obviously), I feel lost and I need advice if my choice is good or not.
I wanted to start as a Grave Cleric, spent 6 level and then switch to a Chronurgy Wizard and spent the rest of my level here. Yes, you guessed it right, my concept is about controlling fate, upcoming event and stuff.
Do you think it's balanced? I fear that I'm shooting myself in the foot a bit. If you have any proposal, ideas or knowledge to share about Cleric and maybe feat combos or anything that could match with my character, please do not hesitate.
I've got a buddy that multiclassed an assassin rogue with grave cleric, had some cool results when used with a scimitar of speed. Though, I don't know if I like this as presented.
Now, if you asked me how I'd do a wizard cleric, I'd go for something like twilight 2/abjuration x to stack up temp HP and arcane ward plus access to heavy armor. That's one heck of a tank mage!
But, if you really want grave, I'd say 2 cleric/wizard x is your best bet. You wouldn't want to delay your wizard spells or features that much especially when chronurgy has a cool lvl 10 ability
just worry about going first level cleric for now and don't waste time thinking beyond that. your first level healing spells can be cast with higher level spell slots so your healing ability scales as you level up your wizard. also, make sure you use a familiar as you can heal through it. sure, grave domain is a good one, but it doesn't really matter. just play and have fun and you'll figure it out as you go.
Thx for the feedbacks. I learned some nice things and it changes my point of vue on the topic, but brings other questions.
I wanted to get 6 levels in the Grave Cleric to get "Sentinel at Death's Door". Not only I think it's a cool feature but also it fit my character's backstory. To me it's like affecting someone's fate, that's why I really wanted to get it.
But this multiclassing concept is all about making the good choices/sacrifices to fit lore and playability(related to fun).
Clerics an wizzards are very strong classes on their own. If you're splitting the levels too much you will unnecessary weaken your character, especially, since your goal can easily be achieved by a 2 Level dip into wizard (diviner or chronurgy). The 2nd level ability is the essential ability for your build in this class, so just decide wich one you prefer (chronal shift or portent) and choose wizard-spells, that don't rely on the spellcasting ability and will add something to your cleric.
Find familiar is an obviously and powerful choice. Gift of alacrity is very good and support your theme. Shield and Magic Missile make great additions for a cleric. Detect magic and Unseen servant are good ritual choices.
the other levels should be used for your "main"-class.

i think by the time you get there (if ever since you're multiclassing), you'll realize its not really a destination. if you want to be a 6th level cleric, sure go for it. but saying you want to be a 6/6 cleric/wiz is another thing. most characters never get beyond level 10 so you're worrying about something that probably won't happen. also, in your head - how frequently you use an ability and the awesome impact it'll have on a game vs. how it really plays out are two very different things. putting an entire build around getting one ability is pretty anticlimatic
also, playability and fun have absolutely nothing to do with your character's build. nothing at all.
Unfortunately, it's going to feel kind of weak to be that MAD and you are going to miss out on the high level spells that really feel like you are shaping fate.
I would suggest staying single class cleric and going halfling, and then taking bountiful luck in place of the cronurgist feature so you can throw around rerolls on 1s to you party. This is pretty amazing considering you can do it every 6 seconds.

Thx again. I will take both advice in consideration.
I get what you are going and its a cool concept.
