Yea it's actually a pretty well known build from my understanding, I got the idea from the Giants of The Playground Forums and abjuration was always my favorite school in theory so I wanted to try it out if I ever get the chance to be a player. Doesn't help that I'm a filthy goblin apologist.

It's ok Ranger, you'll always be cool to me.. Unless druid gets another use for its wild shape charges.
okay i have nothing against any other statement you made but this just boils my blood since hobgolblins are far from the only race proficient in light armor, seing as mountain dwarves and gith get an arguably better bonus and variant humans still exist, but your build is probably better...

Mountain dwarves and gith do, yes, but they don't get the con AND int bonus, which is crucial in my opinion. Though to be completely honest this build works with any race, Hobgoblin is just the normal choice from my understanding, since a lot of the ones I've seen have been made with standard array/point buy in mind.
also Gith are kinda gross imo? They just look weird. They're definitely a powerful race but they're very off-putting.

wait, you are fine with whatever hobgoblins are supposed to look like, but you think noseless yellow elves are gross? Nothing wrong with that opinion, gith look kinda werid, but really?

medium armor is better because you don't have to focus on dex, con, and int altogether.
Yea nobody is saying it isn't, but the whole point of hobgoblin over dwarf and githyanki is the stat boosts. Since you'd probably want to use a shield for maximum AC anyway, you'd need the feat anyway since neither the dwarves nor githyanki get natural shield proficiency, so you're not only wasting an extra ASI for stats, but also the feat for moderately armored. This is all assuming you're doing standard array or point buy though. If you roll, it doesn't matter as long as you get good stats, and like I said, the build could really be done with any race that has light/medium armor proficiency, its just the easiest with hobgoblin (apparently. It's not my build.)
If you're going for a more battle-magey feel I see no reason not to use Gith or Mountain Dwarf (If I'm being honest the dwarves are one of my favorite races to play as anyway), but it would just be a bit of extra work to get the stat allocation correct.
I like creative play. Divination, Abjuration, Illusion, and Enchantment are my favorite schools. Illusion is absurd depending on the DM. I love being able to shape illusions and making part of the illusion a reality it reminds me of Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works.
I started my abjuration wizard as a way to have more survivability at lower levels. I ended up liking it more for the ability to outwizard other wizards with counterspelling better than any other class or tradition.
For me Ilusion is when you are a bard and you take Multiclass, and later you choose that Tradition, because is the best one for them.
Also Rogue/Thief/Ninja classes with Illusion is a Jack-of-all-Saves..... IYKWIM
A Wizard who can Masterize the Evo Tradition, and later get the Abjuration Tradition, is 99% best worthed for them.
um, there is no offical rule that allows you to have more than one subclass (tho such an rule would be fun) and as such, you cannot "masterize the evo tradition, and later get the abjuration tradition" since you'd just be stuck with evocation for the rest of the campaign

........................................ unless when the D&D devs could release the PHB for lvls 20s and beyond, we could get a clear idea IF we can do what I said b4.
yes as of now there is no way in hell they will release an "epic level handbook" since most games will not get that far, and they have introduced the "epic boons system" in the dungeon masters guide as a means of introducing leveling above 20th. I think that you should be able to multi class above level 20 but i understand why they will never do that, but if you ever could multiclass above level 20 you could theoretically combine 10 levels of abjuration wizard with 11 levels of rouge (preferably arcane trickster) and have an character who will always 100% of the time counterspell any spell regardless of the level gap between the spell being dispelled or counter spelled and the spell slot he uses becuase he cannot roll lower on a 10 on an counterspell check since such checks include his or her proficiency bonus, letting you be the counterspell ***** of your dreams

We've heard no explanation of what it can do yet, but Chronurgist is officially my new favorite.
Matt described locking people into place, increasing initiative, and freezing spells for allies to use. Graviturgist seems super interesting you can increase/decrease movement, you can pull/push people described as moving chess pieces. Honestly I’m just excited for dunamancy and I’m interested in how the spells will fit into spell lists for all the classes. These new spells want me to replay so many of the spellcasting subclasses I’ve already visited.
Edit: This was for subclasses in the PHB by the way haha.
The devs have been trying to come up with higher level content. It's been a chicken or the egg argument for a while. No reason to make high level content since most never get there but how can you get there if there is not high level content. I have been lucky in that I have been at consistent tables, AL and otherwise, and can say tier 3 and 4 is the most fun for me. I'm interested to see what they come up with outside of boons for lvl 20 and possibly higher. I love my Wizard and wish I had more I can do with him especially with all the time put in to get that high.
no high level content? man that is bull, there are like fifty or so stat blocks for CR 20+ big bad boss monsters who are meant to challenge level 20 players, particularly in mordekinens tombe of foes and ebberon rising from the last war

Yeah, but those are spells. Any dumb wizard can take them, but I want to know what specifically Chronurgist can specificallly do.

the concept of an "time mage" is quite interesting, maybe some kind of action surge like thing will be in there?
