I've really enjoyed using the character builder and sheets here and have toyed around with the homebrew campaign section. I have not subscribed yet to any of the pay tiers but I'm seriously thinking about it. I really want to commit to a single platform to run my games, but the "My Campaign" section is weak when it comes to organizing things. For example, I tried some DM templates on Notion and OneNote and love how you can put things in different sections. On the other hand, D&D Beyond only has public notes and private notes sections, forcing me to dump all my campaign notes into a single section.
Are there any plans to improve and expand this here on D&D Beyond? I could use Chronica or Kanka, but I would love to see more of what they offer right here. DDB seriously has the best character sheets and integration with other platforms like Discord. I'm trying to make DMing easier, but right now I have to click 10 different tabs/websites/apps during my games just to find my place.
While I'm quite certain than improving the "campaign page" is somewhere on the list/plans for DDB, it is not something that has been discussed in the Dev Updates for a long time. Given that, I'm guessing that it will be quite a while (as in years) before they get around to it. I would love to be wrong, though, as I used to try to use the campaign notes myself and ended up switching to Dropbox Paper/
Thanks for the answer. I know DDB is continually growing and that makes good sense that a campaign page isn't top priority. Especially since you can purchase published adventures and integrate them as is. I have been testing out several other options but did not consider Dropbox Paper. I just want to settle on one and move on with my life, but I'm so indecisive.
Hello I'm new to the forum and working to get back into D&D after a long hiatus Loving the new tools I am finding like character builder and encounter builder I have found the Campaign builder, but that seems to just be text description with attached characters Ok
A couple Questions
1) Is there a layer above "Encounter" but below "Campaign" I'd call it 'adventure' or 'session' Basically the series of locations and encounters I expect a party to go through as a coherent storyline something like this "a) Bartender tells you about treasure in shed by the old quarry b) rent or steal a boat to get to the quarry c) scary rats at quarry d) breaking into the shed and fighting the guard wolverine e) dealing with local law enforcement when they catch you with stolen goods etc"
2)Is there a way to add Encounters (or better Adventures) to the "campaign"?
3) Is theres some sort of automated 'treasurator' where I can say " gimme 50gp worth of stuff" and get a few options? Doing this from tables is kind of trudgy

1) No. To be honest, the Campaign feature here is designed mostly at this point to allow for content sharing and to let the DM and the players see the characters for the campaign. They've said from the beginning that they plan to expand the features for campaign management at some point in the future, but much of that keeps getting pushed back due to other priorities and due to the content WOTC produces and DDB is contractually obligated to support. (Although the encounter builder and tracker are themselves pieces of the wider "campaign management" tools they hope to develop)
2) Not exactly, but in the encounter builder, you can specify which campaign the encounter is for, and filter by campaign.
3) Not yet. I hope it will happen sometime, but I doubt it will be any time soon.
I know this is an old thread, but it comes up in google searches on the topic -- So hoping the devs will see this some day...
The only thing I put in the "campaign notes" are the session zero notes/agreements on the public side. Like if we have a house rule, those rules are published there so it's tightly coupled with the campaign.
The way "campaign encounters" are right now, I use it to sometimes double check balance for the encounter, but that's mostly it. I don't use it for running the encounter, though have occasionally found it useful to see the monsters actions/abilities/etc I'm using in one place.
There is a lot of potential though for some of the ideas listed here to improve the "Campaign management" and more.
As a DM there needs to be more DM tools to take all of your player characters and give you at a glance views on their weaknesses, their strengths, languages, combined skills/tools, passive senses, etc. All of this at a glance would make planning for campaigns, sessions, and encounters easier. I don't know, call it a digital DM screen, treat it as a dashboard the same way you would want for IT operations.
I've been running my group through LMoP. What I've done is gone through each section of the adventure, and create encounters for each "room". I've used a title format for each so I can sort and find them much easier. For example:
Cragmaw Castle #1 - Entry and Approach
That tells me that it is the first encounter area on the map for Cragmaw Castle. I include any descriptive text from the adventure, plus any of my own, and include any treasure found if they look, plus any special rolls they may need to make, in the bottom section. I have also beefed up some of the encounters, because even with their meager gear thus far, they have been steamrolling. I'm glad I did, because when they were going through the Redbrands hideout in the basement of Trassendar Manor, they did a short rest at the end of one session, and we picked it up right there the next week.
One thing I'd like is for adventures we purchase through D&D Beyond to have a means to run those encounters right from the "book", without having to set anything else up.
