I tried searching for an answer to this but wording it proved tricky to get answers. I run a high school group with 40+ kids so I have a lot of characters. We are soon starting up sessions again. My question is-- obviously these characters were made with 2014 guidelines/rules. Now that 2024 is out (I have the digital book purchased) how do I apply the new shifts into the characters. For example-- one of my kids has a 8th level paladin- so his Aura of Warding according to the new book should give resistance to necrotic, psychic, and radiant damage. However, his character under Features and Traits for this says only resistance to damage from spells. My account is synced...I am just curious what I have to do on my end so that the new changes are present? I an hoping for an easy way to do this so I don't have to go through 40 characters....
This probably isn't the answer you want, but you'll have to remake the characters.
DDB treats the classes like separate classes, not just different versions of the same class. So there's no quick toggle.
On the plus side, because it treats them as separate classes, you can multiclass a 5.0 Paladin with 5.5 Paladin during your update rather than deleting everything and having to remember the choices.
There's also enough changes to spells and the addition of weapon masteries that create enough choices that you might consider having the kids do the heavy lifting while you're a troubleshooting guide. That way instead of updating 40+ characters you'd update a couple to get a feel for it. Will probably make sense to spend a session explaining the changes anyways. (This assumes the kids are joining content sharing campaigns you're hosting rather than you having all the characters on your account.)
The new 2024 versions have been added as new classes. Each character needs to be re-made (although characters below level 10 can multiclass into their original class so you can more easily copy the selected options across)
It's really not well implemented yet, but the team has a hell of a lot on their plate so I'd leave it for now. Have your campaign world build up to a big event (spell plague comes to mind) to help explain why the world works differently, and use the old rules until then.

Playing high charisma characters with no real life charisma - the only fantasy that still eludes me.
Appreciate the responses folks-- this is definitely an issue but the kids are well versed enough that this is possible to be sure. I do have all the characters on my account because I was definitely not thinking...but taking the time to reorder things into separate campaigns does really make sense.
