The feature/subclass/race you are referring to is not part of the D&D 5th edition SRD and will need to be unlocked from the marketplace before you can use it on D&D Beyond.
I was also confused by this, the wording of the following paragraph makes it seem like those 3 choices should be available for free.
"At 3rd level, you choose an archetype that you strive to emulate in your combat styles and techniques. Choose Champion, Battle Master, or Eldritch Knight, all detailed at the end of the class description. The archetype you choose grants you features at 3rd level and again at 7th, 10th, 15th, and 18th level."
i purchased the PHB and I'm still not able to select the "Battlemaster" Subclass. The Character was created after i bought the PHB on the market place.
When looking for purchasing the "additional" content from the phb, i can see that the subclass is as much as 1,99$ and i can view the details, but i can not buy any subclass or any other additional content.
I created the char and my brother claimed it in my campaign. I bet now the ownership switched to my brothers account and therefore the PHB which i bought don't apply to the character anymore. Sharing resources like the bought PHB isn't a thing on DDB for players in a campaign?

Hey Glingol,
Sharing is available to users with a Master Tier subscription, which allows the user to activate sharing in a campaign. When they do, all purchased content is shared between all users of the campaign. Hope that helps!
Hi, I am currently in a campaign run by my gaming group which does indeed have master level subscription. I was looking to update my current lv 13 battlemaster fighter to the current 2024 build, but there's no option for battlemaster, and my current sheet lost its fighter subclass. I'm pretty shore battlemaster was part of the core rule book that came out today. btw the link does not work. Anyone figured it out yet?

I wanted to create a battle master, but when I got to level 3 it would only let me pick champion.
Only Champion is available free from WotC. You can buy the others here.

D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual, will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via another user sharing content with you via their Master Tier Subscription.

Please note that a fighter character needs to be at least 3rd level before selecting their subclass.
