I made a custom spell and added it to a custom item. The item provides three charges of the spell, and they are set to refresh on long rest:
However, when I use the spell through my character sheet, the charges don't refresh on long rests. It says the reset condition is set to "other". Any idea why?
On a similar note, is there a way to mark the passing of a day for my character? So I can have "once per day" spells refresh automatically.
This is known. There's multiple threads on this. Magic items don't automatically recharge.
Spells aren't really once per day, either. They use spell slots normally and you recover those on Long Rest. Feats and features that grant limited use spells also reset on Long Rest, typically. You can Long Rest on your character sheet using the Long Rest button at the top, then clicking Take Long Rest, and then clicking "Confirm" before timer runs out. It will then refresh everything on your sheet that recovers on a long rest, except magic items.

Thanks for looking into this!
Technically, there is no such thing as a magic item with charges that reset on a long rest. Charges either don’t reset, or reset at dawn. There are items that grant actions that can only be used once between long rests, but those aren’t “charges.” When they were rushing to get DDB up and running they cut a bunch of corners, one of them was not attaching actions to magic items. In order to get things “close enough” for launch, they cheated and piggybacked those actions onto the charge mechanic and slapped the rests into the dropdown to make it sortakinda useable enough… ish…. At that time, short and long rests barely did much at all on character sheets, but now they are waaayy more integrated than they used to be.
As Cyb3rM1nd pointed out, magic item charges have never reset on a rest. However, I believe I remember that magic items did at least used to display “long rest” as the reset if coded that way. I may be wrong, it may have always displayed “other” and I’m simply misremembering things, but someone else would have to say.
If I’m wrong, someone will likely say so, and then ignore the rest of this post.
If I’m not wrong, and it really did used to display differently, then that might be a confirmation of a suspicion I have….
I suspect that they may finally be be working on actually fixing magic items. Apparently, push may finally have come to shove when Fizban’s Treasury landed.*1 They said they were cooking up something, but not what or how long it’ll take.*2 🤷♂️ I guess we’ll all find out together.

“Topaz Annihilator. This item is not currently available to add to character sheets. For now, we recommend adding a custom action to the character sheet, as above for the Platinum Scarf. We have plans for better integrating mundane weapons and magic items, which will allow this to be built.” — GPyromania
“Yeah, we desperately need the ability to add actions onto magic items. That's 100% coming.” — Stormknight
