This makes it easy to forget if you haven't played paladin enough to remember. I have to go to class traits to find out the damage instead of it being with the limited use options like lay on hands.
Perhaps if it were listed in the spell section, since it uses spell slots, as a separate expandable like my Light cantrip for my High Elf which shows in Spells under Traits/Features. Just have a class feature which allowed it to count spell slots as you used it. Of course, that turns this from a bug report to an enhancement request, but my idea still stands.

This would be a nice enhancement. If the Oath spells can show as Always Prepared, Divine Smite should as well.
I have a very new character to D&D that always forgets to use Divine Smite. And if he does he's not marking off the right spell slots because its not in the same are on the character sheet. As a primary feature to this class i would have thought it would be more prominent in the character sheet. I always would highlight the big features for classes on my paper sheet (hunter's mark, sneak attack, bardic inspiration etc...)
Apologies for the thread necro, but this appears to still be an issue. With all the automation for everything else it'd be nice to include it so that you don't have to manually roll and track Divine Smite. It would make sense to add it as a special action under spells and handle the count against spell slots.
I mean, do you really forget that Paladins can smite? It's their big feature, the raison d'etre of the class. It would be like forgetting Rogues have Sneak Attack or Wizards can cast spells or that druids can shapeshift.
If you really cannot remember Paladins can smite - it is not the class for you.

It's a convenience, just like every other single automated thing on the character sheet. Simple enough.
Not for the Devs who have to invent a new backend system to implement this and re-work the UI. All for the tiny minority who somehow have difficulty clicking two buttons and want only one instead.
And there's such a thing as too much convenience. If too much is automated, it's no longer you playing. If everything is tracked for you, what's the point in having a character sheet? Some things should still be on the player to do.
It's one extra button click. That's all. You'll be fine.

It's not a new backend system, nor a UI rework. They literally already have the systems in place for this for spells in general. You can already create custom actions to get 80% of the way there, it'd just need a 'use spell slot' option and scaling die count for the different levels, both of which already exist for spells. And if you want to count clicks for doing it manually, it's more like 6 (4 for the digital dice, one to get to the spells tab and one for the spell slot) or more for higher levels.
If your idea of playing is being inconvenienced, that's fine. It's not mine. For a "Easy to use digital character sheets" that's "The World's most intelligent Dungeons and Dragons Character Sheet" it would fit right in.
If it's added, you can still roll and track it manually. You'll be fine.
Why would they NEED to add a whole new set of click boxes when they are already there. The benefit of knowing your own shit is knowing what spell you might be sacrificing if you use up the spell slot.

Plenty of people already don't know the rules, as evidenced by this very thread. Automate too much and that will only get worse. Your player can't remember the MAIN feature of being a paladin? Then he can't use it.

I think that's because Divine Smite does not have its own limited-use counter, but is powered by spell slots.

Or just click off the spell slot when you use it?
Seems simple enough.
Do people really struggle that much?
