Made a variant human level 3, but when I went to choose his initial feat, the only option available was grappler (which is far from what I want to use). I've refreshed the page, closed and re-opened my browser, even scrapped the character and started from scratch, and still only grappler. Is this just a bug? Is this something on my end? Or am I destined to try to wrestle all of my opponents to the ground in my coming campaign?
To expand a bit on Mathias' answer: To access other feats, you either need to purchase them from the marketplace (you can purchase the entire source they are part of, purchase the feats bundle, or purchase individual feats), or you can use the homebrew tools to homebrew feats.
The feature/subclass/race you are referring to is not part of the D&D 5th edition SRD and will need to be unlocked from the marketplace before you can use it on D&D Beyond.
A bit of extra info. I'm working in a group, my DM has all of the books and is sharing content with the group. When I went to make my character, all the feats in the PHB and Xanathar's were available, so I took sharpshooter. After moving on, I realized I wanted something different, so I went back to the race tab and tried to choose Great Weapon Master, but the only feat available was Grappler. I've talked with my DM and he's said he's not changed any permissions, so that's why I made this thread. I hope this clears things up.
Make sure the character your editing is actually in the campaign. On your character overview page It should tell you which of your characters is in which campaign. Make sure you're editing the correct one.
Also make sure content sharing is still turned on for the campaign. On the campaign page it should say if it's enabled or not.

Grappler is the only free feat.

One of the devs should just build a bot to auto respond to these. It'd only need to trigger off of a few common keywords.

D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual, will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via another user sharing content with you via their Master Tier Subscription.

Also try removing the character from the campaign and re-adding it via the invite link.
If you are still having this problem, delete the level in the character and then add it back. worked for my camopaign
