I'm considering cancelling my DnDbeyond subscription if this OGL 1.1 mess becomes a reality. The thing is I've spent hundreds of dollars on books on the platform, and even if I won't buy any more if WotC withdraws the old licence, I would like to keep the stuff I've paid for https://showbox.bio/.
Can I keep my account but cancel my subscription and still have access to the books I've bought?
Actually, the really funny thing is I hadn't even considered looking at another system until now, but our group is already discussing Shadowrun now that more info is out regarding the OGL.
Thanks for reminding everyone that there's other options, WotC!
Yeah, you get to keep things you’ve bought as long as the account is active, but will be limited to 6 characters. Strongly considering cancelling but I also don’t want my group of 8 players to have to buy all the books that I share and give them (WotC/Hasbro) more money. I probably will cancel after I discuss this with them
I'm going to wait for official word from WOTC that this is really the game plan. Once they do. I'm done spending money with them. Period. So I will cancel and still be able to look up stuff and I only need the PC builder going forward for one PC at a time and you can export when you need a new slot. Hopefully me not being a paid subscriber costs them money when I do use the site. Lol.
Quick questions about the Character Sheets... when my subscription runs out, will I still keep all my characters and just be unable to do new ones or will all characters but 6 be deleted?
You will get to choose 6 characters and the rest will be locked until/unless you resubscribe. You will also lose all of your subscribe perks until/unless you resubscribe too.
Yes, but you won’t be able to share them and you’ll have a limit of 6 character slots.
What happens the the rest of my characters if my subscription cancells? do I get them back if I resub?
Yes.

I am in the same boat! So disappointing the treatment of their community. I'll be glad to never give them another cent if they continue with this plan.

Yep. I was absolutely content with playing D&D for the rest of my life. But then this directly booted me out the door.
I just cancelled, if enough people don't cancel, they will be thinking"it's not that bad, we can keep going with our plans to force massive monetisation". They have to feel the impact now and it must be severe if this great community is to survive.
Just cancelled too being DM in the midst of a 1-y plus campaign. Oh well, the group will transfer this to another system and continue I guess. Well done, WotC, well done ...

Remember, there's nothing that prevents us from continuing to play DnD. Nothing. Playing DnD doesn't give WotC money - buying their stuff does. And we don't need to buy it to play.
Cancelled today. There is so much good third party stuff out there. Much better than the lazy dreck WOTC is known for. I figure I need the three core books and Tashas and Xanthar's and nothing else to play the same as always. You get to keep your access of the needed books (because, ahem, you bought em ) and you can export the PC you make into PDF and I believe .json So six slots is plenty with careful adjudication.
Remember, any new OGL they offer is the same poison pill with slightly better terms, until they change them, again. Anything but a complete reversal and leaving the current OGL intact is a choice based on greed and a clear indication the company has no connection with it's audience and the IP would be better off if they were divested of it.

Shadowrun is tons of fun, I actually prefer it to D&D.

They need us, but we don't need them :)
Great point for everyone to keep in mind, Rutana.
